  1. My first paint job came out better than I expected. Not great but it's a good start. Been gorging on airbrush videos.. so much to learn.
  2. After I broke the tail off a G2 Shellcracker on the side of my pool on it's first test cast I vowed to make mine easy to replace. Eventually came up with printing them on overhead transparency sheets. I print it in mirror image, like a butterfly, then fold it double. That protects the print a bit and I can hold it place with a little pin. They are very detailed, translucent, flexible and surprisingly durable.Check out this instagram pic of the same lure with 4 different tails. It really changes the look of the lure. https://www.instagram.com/p/BKGAKxEjSMQ/
  3. Thanks Dave. So difficult get lure parts here so I've been messing about making my own 3D eyes. That one is one of my favourites, it keeps watching you as you move the lure. The pupil is actually 'raised' inside the domed eye but it's a mission to make
  4. My first pour didn't make it out the cup and the second wasn't mixed properly but the third came out great. Evolution at work. Swim test in the dark went well. Great crank and surprisingly good walk. Next step; my first go with an airbrush...
  5. I'm trying my luck at pouring a urethane lure. Going for a fat little bluegill shaped wake/ crank. First step is to carve a blank so I did a quick outline of what I planned and hit the garage. This is what I have so far. Quite happy with the carve. Might add scales a bit later but don't want to risk it now. I am off to grab some mould making material. Hold thumbs.
  6. Awesome James! Great to see you grind has paid out, turned a frustrating pond into a fun factory! Keep the great reports coming.
  7. Good looking Donkeh! Hope she de-stress you and things start looking better.
  8. Sounds like you got plenty of fish and ended with a beast. Nice!
  9. Thanks for the replies. The half real turn is pretty much how I fish my ES Flat. Its got a nice glide for such a relatively small lure. I've put lighter hooks on though so it just floats (only the top of the tail sticks out). Now it darts down about 3-4 feet and I can pause for much longer without worrying about it hitting the bottom. Thanks for the warning about the knock offs Juan. I don't generally buy copies but was under the impression Evergreen had stopped producing the ES Flat which was why the factory was still selling the blanks. It's really a difficult bait to find, I can't even find their website.
  10. Hi Guys, I've been asked to do a workshop/seminar on swimbaits and was planning on providing glides for everyone to use. It would obviously be great if I could hand out x20 Deps 250s but a single 250 will cost more than my flight across the country. I have an original Evergreen ES Flat, a great little lure that I have neglected after making my own baits. The 6th Sense Flow Glider is a 'copy' and there are lots of blanks available for repainting so a friend is going to custom pain them for me (check out his work if you like : https://www.instagram.com/offshore_g/?hl=en) I'm going to have to put in some work on the lure and was hoping for a bit of advice on how to get the best out of it's action etc. On a side note: The ES Flat was the first glide I owned. Here is a picture of me after spending about 3 hours dragging a anchor around the day after I lost it on my first ever session with it. The 3 foot of mono that snapped off some how wrapped around the rope and stayed on long enough for me to grab it just as I was about to head home.
  11. We had this discussion in May with Don's fish. http://swimbaitunderground.com/forums/index.php?/topic/39946-sub-tournament-march-28th-april-3rd/page-8The general consensus seemed to be that the intention of the rule "Picture must include ... fish on a digital scale" is that the weight is displayed on a digital scale and that a pic of the fish hanging off the scale doesn't really add anything (besides more stress to the fish). Obviously it's Admin's call though.
  12. BigSlant does so much good work for the swimbait fraternity we should get admin to change his name to BigSaint
  13. Hey Brandon, I don't fish deep as much as I should and am going to give it a full go this season (our season only starts in September) Unless you want to fish straight down I'd suggest using a double fluke type rig with the 1st fluke replaced with a weight. This allows a more horizontal approach. I.e. you can cast it out a distance, let it sink and fish it back just off the bottom. With a dropshot you can only really fish vertically or it gets snagged. Trick is to get a lure that floats but isn't too buoyant. If its too buoyant it floats tail up. "last cast"

Awesome Tim. Last cast fish r the best.
  15. lol.. that osprey looks bleak. Great to hear he was released safely though. A friend of mine hooked a pelican while fly fishing. People where screaming at him as he desperately tried to catch the bird.. then a dog charged into the surf to add to the chaos. Wish he got that on video...
  16. Great day. Now you have to start catching the big girls there on a regular basis.

    Camping trip

Family and fishing camping trip. GOOD TIMES!!
  18. Awesome! I'll remind you closer to the time. Be mid-summer here but I'll sling it till it gets bit! It already has heaps of mojo but hopefully I'll get some African muti gouged into it as well.
  19. A good friend of mine from Seattle is coming to Cape Town for a week or 2 over Christmas. If no one is fishing it then I'd love to get it wet in the Darkest Continent ...
  20. Talk about a labour of love. Keep up the good work Garrett!
  21. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, ouch! When that happens to me (and it does more often that I like) I get selective amnesia - I just remember the sigh of the bass coming out the deep to hit my lure and conveniently block out the memory of the same lure flying past my ear seconds later...its a gift
  22. If you have the funds get the best you can but if you don't then use what you have and build your setup 1 piece at at time. My first setup was a spinnerbait rod with the tip snapped off (the previous owner called it junk I called it customized ...lol) paired with a old Shimano Canean. It was rather caveman but it caught plenty of good fish. As I grew in the sport I've build a setup that suits me well, mostly with the help of awesome SU members. Best of luck and enjoy the new journey.
  23. Nice job. Those whiskers look cool but make sure that they don't inhibit the action too much. The bass will care more for the movement than the aesthetics.
