dabassbum reacted to genexiong15 in Yes!! Back to Back!
Not to be dramatic and all, but today had to be one of the most cruddy fishing days I've experienced. Wind was blowing hard all day long, a wave hit me so hard earlier today I almost called it quits because it got dangerous for my little boat. Which I then had to go hide in a cove for a good minute until it was safe. I marked fish everywhere but couldn't land crap (threw hudds, baitsmith, deps, hinkle, etc.) Broke my 250! And I've been skunked for about 10 trips and today was going to be another day.. I gave up and left the lake, but my heart felt uneasy. I remember there was this cove you can only get to by foot, so I left everything in my car and the lake was closing in 15 minutes. I threw one cast nothing, second cast I felt a fat thump! Got my first fish (5.5lbs) for the year! Right on! As soon as I released it I made another cast, Boom!! Another one! this one was 6lbs on the dot. Made this entirely shitty day a great freakin day! Moral of the story? Don't give up! You just just never know. Sorry for the long read, just wanted to share and entertain you guys. (both fish were caught with the broken 250 lol) ‪#‎moamstick5150‬ ‪#‎deps250‬ ‪#‎bigbassdreams‬

dabassbum reacted to YELOSUB in Mag Fish
Decided at the last minute to hit the lake...It was super windy and cold to start the day, 45°...Early in the day I had a one fish about 5-6# smash my 250 trout and it was followed by a wolf pack with the same sized fish...I missed the fish and tried for about 1/2 hour to try to get one to commit by switching up baits but no luck...I continued to fish this cove for about an hour and came back to this same spot...I threw out by the underwater boulder where the fish had came from before and unfortunately got snagged on an old anchor rope that was submerged in about 5 foot of water...I tried for about 30 mins to free my new to me 250 but the quad hooks were buried in the rope and it was not gonna come free...Well I was not gonna just leave it there so what was I to do? Water temp was 65° so I stripped down to my boxers in jumped into the water and was able to grab onto the bait and pull it hard breaking the split rings...Although it was freezing cold I got my bait back and I was a happy camper...
Later in the afternoon the wind subsided a little and I went to a shoreline that has been good to me in the past...I made a long cast parallel to some overhanging trees with some underwater boulders... I had a good feeling as I started reeling in my Mag...Then it happened...My rod loaded up and I set the hook but my lure come flying out of the water and lands about 5ft from where I got the hit...I continue to reel and the fish comes back and smashes it coming completely out of the water to eat it...I set the hook again and somehow the fish comes unbuttoned... Damn it! This fish had a huge mouth and was big...
Oh well, I continue to throw the mag and about 15 mins later I got hit again but this time I connect... The fish puts up a decent fight but I know it's not real big so I just boat flip it...Fish was about 4.5#, hungry little fella...Smallest fish I have ever caught on the mag...

On a day that the weather conditions sucked (blue bird sky,3rd day of a front, and a bad wind) I was able to get this girl.

dabassbum reacted to mnbassman23 in Dream Smasher fish
Wrapped up my MN season with this chunky 5.79lber. She hit a perch colored Dream Smasher Swimbait on a slow steady retrieve on a rock flat. Always depressing to winterize the boat but I got to go out with a bang this year.

dabassbum reacted to bigpoppabass in My First Hudd Choker
I caught my first hudd fish on an 8 inch hudd I bought from an su member. It was part of a bait lot that made me laugh cuz the deps slide swimmer and savage gear items were tiny rapala sized baits reminding me that I need to brush up on my millimeter to inch conversion. LOL But the hudds in the package were super soft oldies, one of which produced this 6lb 7oz choker for me. Thank you su.
She choked it. He belly kept digesting the bait making hook removal tricky but once I got the tail out, the hook popped free.

dabassbum reacted to C_R_TX in Cruising the Canals
This was my first fish on the 250 . A week before, I snapped a big one off around 11PM and I had a hunch she should still be in the area fattening up for the winter to come. She patrolled the boat canal in the night, and I figured she would head to the opening of the canal during the day time (due to the wind moving bait).
During a lull in the Thanksgiving events, I made a quick trip down to the lake. I went straight to the opening of the canal and bombed one against the retaining wall, where it came to a point. Right as the bait came across the point, I saw a faint shadow following. I popped the bait and she turned on it. I set the hook and bounced her ashore. I was super pumped. Within 10 min, I was back to the house to show the extended family photos of the catch. She was not in great condition, and I was not able to find any signs of hooks from the week previous. She sure had a large head, wish we crosse paths when she was healthier. -

dabassbum reacted to RyanPerrey in Burrito Baits Shad Eater
I've been experimenting w/ a few lakes lately trying to get something figured out for the battle. The Swimbait bite has been funky since the lakes are starting to turn over. I thought I'd throw em a curve ball at this lk as there are no shad and stuck a 7 1/2lber 23+" long. The fish are really keyed on crawfish here so I have my work cut out for me:/ this bait is excellent by the way! I pitched it out and sank it to the bottom of a bridge. I slow rolled it and she crushed it as it cleared one of the pilons.

Been on a fishing hiatus lately. Finally got out to fish my 178 and 230 wrapped by Grady both in a perch pattern. Dude has talent and these baits are going to produce like crazy. Ended up with 3 fish on the 178 today.

Been a while. Not a lot of fishing for me this year but I have a new home and a nice pond right out my door to fish in. I tried out some new swimbaits. Picked up one on a G2 Shellcracker and another on a GC Jointed Claw. My kids got to see the one on the Claw and we're thrilled. Next spring it's go time for them.

dabassbum reacted to aikenyounggun in Couple baby wake fish
Caught 3 fish today on the baby wake. Had a 4th that didn't get the hooks. Bigger spot is 4 1/2 pounds.
My buddy also caught a 3 1/2 on a wood shellcracker. He is on here, so if he wants to post the picture, he can, or I'll put it up later.
Days like this make the grind worth it. Been a tough couple of year of learning. But days like this are fun, especially when you sort of dial it in.

dabassbum reacted to whompuscat658 in First swimbait largemouth
Just wanted to introduce myself here. This is the first real post of mine. I am new to swimbaits but love throwing them and plan to do it more. it's a blast to do and I'd like to learn as much as possible. So far my swimbait experience has been limited to a few smallmouth I caught but this past week I was able to expand that to largemouth and pike as well. I was fortunate enough to fish a private fishery here in Colorado and I know its not the same as public but it's still fun. the smallmouth I caught earlier were from a public water, though. As you can see, the 6 inch bbz1 is what has landed me my swimbait fish this far.

dabassbum reacted to KeepinItReelFishing in 8" Hudd does it again! 6lbs 5oz New Jersey studd
Pretty wild. My second fish this year on the 8" Huddleston trout (this was a ROF 5 weedless) was within an ounce of my previous fish.....6-5 vs 6-6. Hoping to crack the 7lb threshold this fall, but either way....thank you Hudd!

dabassbum reacted to Sciaramitaro in First Mother fish
Got my romanmade mother in the mail today. Almost had a heart attack when I actually saw how big it is in person haha. Well, anyways I got it to fish it. Went all day without a single bite or follower throwing a bunch of different baits. Finally around 5:30, fishing parallel in front of down trees I had this hungry girl smash the mother. Definitely one of my favorite fish I have caught, simply for the fact that all my friends tell me, "nothing is gonna bite that, it's too big". Well, here's to proving them wrong!
