    My 2 cents: What I've noticed is that generally there are more bigger fish in a lake than you would expect — that being said, not every lake has the right materials to grow giants. Giants can't just thrive in any ole lake or pond, they need the right food, depth, clarity, etc. Also, pressure is a problem in CA. Bass are getting too smart in some lakes, but if you travel to less touched waters and put time in you always have a shot. Takes so much time and work, thats how guys like Mike Long stick giants (not big fish, but GIANTS) consistently.
