You have a lot of good answers on here. One thing I want to add is that, in general, the smaller the bait gets the less it takes to bring out its action. In both glide and lip in mode it does not take too much force to work the bait, however the lip in glide is much more resilient. I really don’t believe you need to modify the bait with weights to be able to fish it, though there is some fine tuning you can do. I have some friends who started throwing glides, and basically had the approach that if it didn’t swim well with half handle turns then it wasn’t a good bait. Of course this is flawed considering gear ratio, line cap, rod action etc. All that to say, approach each bait like it’s a brand new technique you’re trying to learn.

I’ve become a big fan of the baitsanity explorer gill. Very smooth glide and comes with multiple tails to make it more versatile. They are cheap, durable, and readily available, though the paint is not ultra realistic light you might find on other options.

30lb pline or izorline copoly, San Diego jam knot, never fails

I think the hooks were just a side quest for drt. The outwards barbs will nick your line on erratic hardbaits.

OG slide swimmers or new style deps baits shot with foam can be mounted with cheek hooks and fished on bottom

Abu Garcia REVO Beast 40/41 Concerns/Input
manansalsa replied to DEPS_250's topic in The Underground
Have you spent time throwing the 300 sized reels? I really don’t think you need big hands at all for them to be comfortable. That being said, the revo beast is somewhere in between a 200 and 300 sized reel. According to @TTCal on tackle tour the line cap is 14/205. I recommend you read his review, particularly the design & ergonomics section. https://www.tackletour.com/reviewabugarciarevo4beast.html -
Pretty cool how if the WCZ board wasn’t there, you wouldn’t be able to see him at all lol

I forgot to mention that the foam on the handle is already a little bit messed up. Definitely need to wrap it.

Was able to get out and stick a few fish bushwacking with the TK and Legit Design SOC 66XH+ today. Nothing big but it be like that, it’s tough here in north ID and ice out was like 2 weeks ago. I share these fish though because they both ate maybe 3-4 feet away from the bank. My biggest concern with the short rod was that it wouldnt be diverse enough to cast up to its weight rating while also being soft enough to keep fish from throwing hooks. I’m happy to say that the short hookset was beautiful with this rod and the fish were completely pinned. Granted, I’m using mono (15lb big game). Just a few data points in the very short amount of time I’ve had this rod, but I think it’s worth sharing. Hopefully more good news with bigger fish soon

Yes to 1&2. For 3, are you running top shot? I wouldn’t want to do that with this reel, not only because of the levelwind, but in my opinion spool capacity is pretty much its biggest weakness. Braid on the spool and a wingspan of leader should be good enough

I used one all last season and just had to replace it because it was leaking. Got my new one in a few days ago, had a dink pike thrash it around on the dock, and I can hear water sloshing around inside of it now…. Wanted to like this bait so badly lol, back to TK Both of them have water coming in at the line tie

Not overkill, I used to throw the hawghunter mag (5.6oz) on the xxh and it was really nice

My legit design rod came in today, I got the Stand Out 66XH+. For now I’ve only casted into some grass, still iced out. I casted the DoubleH Mir (3.6oz) and it felt great, loaded up well and felt very powerful. The rod is rated to 4.5oz max, and I think I would confidently throw a 4oz bait on it. The posted action is moderate fast and I agree with that, it’s not so fast that I would feel banished to exclusively using mono, you can definitely put a nice bend into it. Went walking into the woods and the rod felt extremely maneuverable, way more than I expected. Downsizing 1.5 feet makes a huge difference. I’m excited to test out how much it helps casting/hooksetting in tight as well. Not too much more to say until I fish it, but something I appreciated out of the box was the bulbous rubber Fuji rod butt. This is a nice touch and way more durable than the cork butt on the deps sidewinders for example.
