  1. Any of you guys fly with your swimbait rods? I Once put some rods in a pvc tube that I left one end cap removable, but either the airlines busted it open or it got busted in travel and that scares me. I am flying to St Croix, and while I've heard there is no bass on the island, id like to chuck some swimbaits in the salt to see if anything wants to nibble. Let me know what you guys do on flights and when swimbaiting in the salt.
  2. How much did it weigh? Great Catch
  3. I use 100 lb leader aswell. Had a musky bite clean through 50. I have a buddy that ties mine but its definitely the way to go over store bought.
  4. I have been fishing the mon river (Monongahela) for bass for about 7 years now consistently. I live in Morgantown so the pool I fish most often is referred to by locals as the "Star-city pool" but I believe its really called the Morgantown Pool. There are fish in it. Probably a healthy population numbers wise. But it seems that all of the fish are between 4 and 8 inches. It also seems that 6/10 bass are of the spotted variant. It really seems like there is one fish over 2 lbs for every 100 fish in the 4-8 inch range. I want to throw the big glides and such, but the only followers I ever get are bluegill, 6 inch spot, and the occasional angry musky who sometimes bite through my leader and make me want to cry. Another thing is I have never seen bass fry or a smallmouth or largemouth on a bed. Why don't our fish get big? The water should be perfect. Lots of cover, slow moving water with enough current. trees, rocks, some grass. Our fish are too small to bite conventional lures. I've fished other places and they just simply aren't like this. If there's any other mon boys out there, what is going on, and have you experienced the same?
  5. How on earth do you get followers to commit. I can draw em out of cover, nose rubbing the bottom of the bait, following the glide. If I twitch it left, the fish goes left, if I twitch it right then right it goes, but all of the fish have lock-jaw. Today I watched a nice, three or four pounder sniff the tail of my s-waver for a solid 20 feet, before it saw the boat and decided to hide on the bottom of the river for years to come. I would estimate that I get 100+ followers to every one I get to bite. Are you fellas seeing similar numbers to this? If not, tell me your secrets!
  6. I forgot to hit this back, but I love mine. It's as smooth as butter and feels like it has the capacity to bring in a whale. It also looks bad to the bone....

    Drummed

Crushed the S Waver in a local creek. What a weirdo
  8. Crazy, Same thing happened to me yesterday! I think Im going to fire my leader guy. lol
  9. Ended up buying a 300 size reel. I ordered the Shimano scorpion MD. Thanks for all of your help! :)
  10. What is thst reel handle? Thing looks sick. Nice catch btw!
  11. What up SU, I have been wanting to get into Swimbait fishing for a long time, so yesterday I pulled the trigger and bought a 7'10'' swimbait rod. The rod is a Heavy and is rated to throw baits up to four ounces. The rod is a Mojo Bass, as I have bought their smaller sticks and absolutely love them. I really like the way the Diawa Prorex looks, as its purples would match really well with the purple in the rod. The thing is, they only make them in 400 size and I don't know if it will be too big and heavy for that rod. So, for a rod like that do you think I should get the 400 size reel or find a 300. I would like to have a reel that is not common, as I fish with guys who use the Tranx a lot. I also would like a low profile reel. What are your thoughts?
  12. I dont know that much about hardware, but I know my friend uses a 100 lb test leader in our area so Musky dont break him off. He makes his own leaders because they are so expensive. I also know he crimps the line because you cant tie the lune that heavy. Hope this helped.
