  1. Hey SU, I'm in northern Illinois, ice-out was a couple weeks ago but we're still getting these cold blasts and unstable weather. I'm wondering, how early in the season do other ice-out bigbaiters find success fishing after dark/overnight? Most of my warm weather fishing is done at nighttime so I'm no stranger to the overnight bite, but I've never really done it this early in the season. Has anyone gotten on any night bites when water temps are still in the low 40s? I know conventional fisherman say the best time is the afternoon, when the sun's been up all day and warmed the shallows some. Just curious if I should even waste my time in the windy (gusts up to 35mph) upper 30s air temps we've got out here right now--I'm thinking I'd throw the Hudd 68 and the TK, two baits I know get bit during the daytime in chilly water. Thanks boys and God bless.
  2. Couple weeks ago I got on an overnight Spro rat bite at a local pond; for a week the conditions were rainy, windy, pond was chocolatey and blown out. This week though, it's been stagnant and calm, an off-and-on breeze throughout the day, almost glass-still water at night. I decided to switch it up and send the Boogie Back--it's smaller and a bit quieter than the rat, which I thought would be better for these new conditions. Man it didn't disappoint; caught a ton of fish, nothing big, but the action was amazing. These were the only two keepers of the session, but I missed a couple butthole-puckering blowups that might've been monsters. Topwater bite is ON!

    New pb!!!

My new pb coming in at 22.25 inches and 6 lbs 7 oz on the GO2 Meanie by Sean Caron paired on the Revelation XH by Justin Wesseling. Couldn’t have done it without @chefchris being generous enough to loan me the bait!
  6. Got a 4-15 largie and 4-1 smallie on back to back casts with the ufo juvi gill wake
  7. What's up SU, So I work a regular 9-5 schedule, don't get home til after 6p, and with the shortening days most of my fishing for the rest of the season is gonna be late evening/overnight. My question is: has anyone had decent success fishing glides during the nighttime hours? I plan to fish the BoogieBack (a bluegill wake-n-crank style with a LOUD rattle to it), the Shellback softbait and the Jenko Booty Shaker, which all have some tail thump or good rattle to them, but I was wondering how effective it would be to fish something as quiet as a glide. I'm trying to learn the intricacies of glides, really focusing on learning the S-Waver and Savage Gear Shine Glide, but I'm just not sure they'll have the drawing power in low-visibility conditions that they do during sunny, clearwater conditions. Thanks all for your help, tight lines! -Andre
  8. Hit a large river with Northeast_trev last night but the main river current was way up so we pushed up a side channel to a small pond. It was warm but overcast and a bit windy so the perfect night for topwater it was not. Casted into the opening and cranked back out. She hammered the 7" bass slammer and went 5.6 for over a pound over my last swimbait PB.
  9. Last night, me and a friend decided to head to a local lake for a night of smallie fishing. We left well before dark and caught a couple 2-3lbers, than once the sun set, there was not a cloud in the sky. Than it got cold. But as soon as it got cold, we stopped catching 12-14 inch smallies for about 30 minutes. I do a long cast with the BBZ rat and left it sitting for a minute. I heard the rat get sucked down and I set and landed a beautiful 5lb 3oz smallie, biggest one ever weighed on a scale outta that lake. Once I caught the 5lb 3oz smallie, I caught a 4lb 7oz smallie on the rat as well, than after that, we just kept catching 4lb+ smallies. In total I think we got 8 over 4lbs and one at 5lbs 0oz the other at 5lb 3oz. Pretty wicked night.
