Been throwing the mink around this past month. Finally starting to figure this rat bite out. If you aren’t cranking it down you’re missing the boat.

20210609_061701_1.mp4 VID_48001226_055808_315.mp4 Was out with my buddy today, just finally updated my personal baits to the models I sell, been using beta rats for the most part. 2+hours and no bites.. was feeling beaten and wanted to switch to the 1 piece but stuck it out and it paid off. Love getting goose water in my mouth, yuck.

I picked up a couple of rago rats on offer up, and both of the lips have been changed and reshaped. I’m new to rat fishing, what shape lip is the best for these rats and should i sand them down to a different shape? Thanks

Quarantine Stash and my first rat fish!

I recently had an hour to go fishing today after I finished my online school work. I decided to head to the pond where I caught my PB bass last year (public 50 acre pond). Water temp. was around 45-44 air temp was 29 and it was snowing with a 25 mile per hour wind. Decided to start out with a big 7 inch triple jointed swimbait in rainbow trout color and had no luck so I proceeded to switch to a home painted Imakatsu Gillroid Jr. (first time out with the bait, had an insane action to it). With no luck on that bait either I decided to take out a 6.5 inch black rat wake bait to see what the action was like (also just custom painted it) on the fist cast into the headwind from the bank I reeled the bait slow back towards the bank, and about ten feet away from me a monster smallmouth around 5 pounds came up and smashed the bait, sadly I set the hook instantly on the fish and did't get a connection. As a beginner swimbaiter I honestly don't know how to fish a rat and what gear to use, I was fishing it on straight 30 pound braid with a fast action MH 7 foot rod. Any advice how to increase hook-up ratio with rat type baits?

want to buy WTB: I really want my first Nezumma Rat, Anyone???
bigbass45 posted a topic in Black Market
New to swimbait fishing (1 year), even newer to the swimbait underground. I'm looking to find my second rat. I recently discovered the Nezumma and started to drool. I may start a collection (I'm wishing) after I find one to fish with (I'm wishing) or may be fishing.... XL would be good but I would prefer a smaller size. Currently fishing an ABT combat rat that I spruced up a bit. If you could be so kind, I would be stoked to hear what your willing to part with. Thanks forward. "I love rats" -
Here’s a shot of my Rat creations. The newest edition is the smaller unpainted one on the bottom. Named it the “CruzR Rat” 4” body size 1 hook and 1.75oz total weight w/ tail. I’ll be making a batch of them in Grey, White and Brown. The other two are the Rumble Rat and the Rocker Rat.

Hey guys! I've been building these two piece waking rats for a while now, and figured I'd share! They've been dubbed the "salty rat" because I live closer to saltwater striper spots and ended up doing all of the testing and tweaking on them in the salt. The 6.5" profile ended up being quite universal and has been successful in both fresh and saltwater. Here are some photos from the last batch I built. Originally I was doing these with two belly hooks, and a tail made from rabbit strips tied to a wire flag; the idea being that the rabbit strips bad a realistic appearance and feel compared to a soft plastic. Moving forward, I think I will switch to a screw lock and tail, as replacing the rabbit strip is somewhat of a pain. Here are a few catches on them so far. Some by me, some by friends. Would love any feedback or questions you guys might have!

This thing is $250 new so don't offer a Hudd Things swims amazing but the three piece just doesn't seem to do as well down here in Texas. Lets see what ya got!

Hey guys, this bait is a spinoff from the not your average rat project. This guy is 5.5 inches in the body total of 13. It's made of silicone not plastisol so it's very durable. The bottom half is solid silicone and the top is a silicone foam which is very light and buoyant. The legs are just a demo but will be skirt material and there will be four. The tail is silicone and should swim like a grub tail. Goal is to reel this through slop like a rat or hollow body frog That's a weighted 10/0 beast for size and what I will probably rig it with. It's colored white with silicone pigment and I have white and black colors right now. I could in theory paint it whatever color though. Any feedback would be rad!

I'm moving this from my initial post in the underground. So I started this project with the intention of making a soft foam or silicone (not plastisol) rat bait. The idea was to make a big bait I could throw into slop. Also most frogs are silent and get blasted so why not silent. Also thought that a soft shallow diving bait would be cool. I'm no artist and can't draw or carve so I would let nature do it by molding an actual rat. Kinda had to go from square one as there is NO info about making a mold of something hairy. First I thawed a frozen feeder rat and then posed it (really gross). Then I refroze. I used smooth-on's body double silk to make the mold but it's sensitive to cold so it took awake to set it up. Made a mother mold of plaster bandages. Removed the rat from the mold after it partially thawed (even grosser). Poured a new master that I could sand/adjust to make a new mold. I also cast a hollow shell and filled with foam for a glide bait. More on that later. The detail came out pretty epic but needs some adjustments before the next mold.
