Work Crew Float Trip

This summer I have been working on Onondaga lake on the biomonitoring project. Some of my coworkers are avid fishermen, conventional of course. I have been talking about how much fun river floats are the entire summer. I finally got two of the guys on one today

We started the day at sunrise, with me immediately catching a few on the fish30acre z5 I just bought

Before too long we were into semi-consistent small fish. Eventually I convinced my coworker to toss a glide around and gave him one to try. Before too long he had his first hookup, a really solid pike in the high 20s. As a bass fisherman he wasn't impressed with the pike but did love the glide bite.

We continued down the river, catching a few more smallmouth here and there. I missed a solid high 20s to low 30s pike twice on the TK, rolled up to a tree with a deep hole on the front of an island and immediately caught a decent smallmouth. I kept working the tree and had this 31" pike shoot out and slam the TK and miss. Worked the tree for another 3 or 4 minutes and convinced her to come back and take the bait again, this time right at the kayak. It was a great fight, especially trying to stay out of the rapids. I'm always stoked to get pike but being my first 30 since March I was extra stoked.

We kept fishing, moving fish every now and then. My coworker caught his first bass on the glide and I don't think I've ever seen him that excited over a fish before, let alone a 2lb smallie. I was pretty happy to get him started on the addiction.

I missed another pike around 30 on the TK, as seems to be a common occurrence.

I then caught the biggest smallmouth of the day at 2-12 on the fish30acre. Not a huge fish but definitely a good one for this system.

My other coworker then caught his PB smallie at 2-2 right after.

All in all a fantastic day for everyone. Trips like this are exactly why I fish, beautiful scenery, amazing fish and great friends.
