I tie direct for all soft baits and glide baits. For any lipped baits (wake / crankdown) I use a split ring to solid ring.

Can you post a link to where you get your solids? Would be much appreciated.

Sorry dude, it's a Korean domestic tackle website that doesn't ship internationally. They're much more popular for saltwater applications, so that might help you track some down.

I tie direct on all hard baits except a glide. But I’m completely fine with a Hyper Wire split ring or a Decoy Egg Snap.

I guess I assumed soft baits are always direct. It never crossed my mind to use a split ring or a snap.

I like to have the ability to swap baits quickly and run a snap on everything. If I can’t fit my snap through a line tie, I’ll even go so far as to add a split ring just to make the bait compatible with my snap. Also I’m lazy and don’t like to waste fishing time retying unless necessary  Split rings must be oval or egg rings to prevent knot damage, otherwise I will swap it out for a snap. The only time that I will tie direct is if I’m throwing a soft bait for an extended period of time (which is rare for me).

So far I have yet to have a Decoy egg snap fail me. I will sometimes retire a snap that has seen a lot of use and try not to open them too far when swapping baits, but other than that they have been pretty reliable.
