First swimbait fish of the season

Well, it's been way too long since I have posted here, but the ice is finally melting in NY. Got out today in the nice warm weather before a huge storm rolled through. Saw some downed power lines on the way home and winds were gusting 50+mph while I was on the water.

Decided to take the trip to fish home water today since it had been 2 years. It definitely felt good to be back. Unfortunately, the pond was a lot more frozen than I anticipated. Despite this I still decided to go out as I had caught fish in these conditions before. Unfortunately the forecast 10-15mph winds turned out to be 20-30 sustained, APRIL FOOLS to me :/.

I fished around the ice edge since I couldn't leave it with the wind. Got to see 8 different bald eagles while out, probably because all of the rivers were flooded.

Anyway, right as the storm started to come through, the wind died for 5 mins and I took the opportunity to get off the ice and fish the water I really wanted to. A few casts in and I had a really solid pickerel in hand.

Overall a good day out back home, I've missed this place
