Big Epp
Anyone ever make slammer style baits? They look fairly simple to make, but I'm curious what your experience was if you've tried it. Thanks! flaswimbaiter
Big Epp
These aren't really good comps, but here are some mini-minnows I made at my desk out of small branches and wood scraps... flaswimbaiter
Big Epp
Okay, so the middle one isn't a lure. It's a "Santa mouse" I made real quickly for a kid client... Merry Christmas!
Big Epp
And yes, the lips are made out of milk carton... I assume a slammer would be quite a bit more on the heavy-duty side of things though! I'd have a hard time putting a milk carton lip on a 9" minnow... flaswimbaiter and gary m 1
flaswimbaiter
I tried to make one a while back before I knew about ballast and wood not being evenly balanced. Needless to say it was a fail. I did repaint one, which was not fun, that paint was hard to get off Big Epp and Doomlurker
Big Epp
Nice! Looks like Ghost Rider. The little ones I made kinds sorta work. I didn't add weight to any of them, and they are all very different. Best one of the bunch is the blue/purple/yellow one. It's made from a poplar dowel, and is a perfect little wake bait. The one roughly painted like a trout suspends nicely, and has a nice action on a gentle, jerking routine. flaswimbaiter
Big Epp
Here's what I've got so far. It's made from an old broom handle I found in my garage. No weight so far, and it swims "okay" at a slow retrieve speed. It has sort of a broke-back posture in the water, so I'm going to add some ballast weight just behind the front hook hanger and see how that changes things. Big Epp
I went ahead and added lead in both sections. I'll swim it again tomorrow and see what's to see. Better to measure once and cut three or four times you know... flaswimbaiter
Big Epp
I couldnt get a good video, I forgot to bring the holder thing that helps me NOT drop my phone in the pond... but it works! I'll keep working on them, and post swim and progress as we go along. Happy new year everyone! danthefisherman and Splitshot
