thastickybandit
This summer has been super busy with family stuff and remodeling part of my home. I haven't gotten out a whole lot so the last 2 months I've been making habit of getting up early and fishing a couple of hours before work. I work a weird schedule so it's not a everyday thing but it gives me the fix I need. So like any other morning I head out to the lake closest to work. I started off working a piece of bank that I don't fish often and that turned up to be a bust. I went to some of the other spots I hit up often and nothing. I keyed in on a spot that I've caught a few fish out of. I was pitching the wake jr around some bushes that over hung the bank. First pitch to the bush was nothing. Second bush the wake jr makes contact with the water and with a turn of the handle I see the blow up and set. This fish didn't really put up much of fight. Honestly I thought it would have put up more of a fight when I saw what kind of fish it was. But it being my first gar I guess I can say I have no experience on how much of a fight they put up. I did hook into an absolute pig of a smallmouth. But it shook the hooks on shore and away it swam. I got a good look at it and because of that it put a pit in my stomach when it swam off. I guess maybe next time! BiteTheBullet
Sometimes they fight pretty good but once you catch a few you know when it's not a bass. Weve got alligator gar in my lake and normal gar. Gotta be careful, they can snip you off easily bassing305

blackdynamite
Good job! Honestly , I love catching gar (and it is way more exciting when they hit swim baits and other lures than live bait ). I've had a few on the line that were relatively docile, but I've also have had several that put up fierce, acrobatic fights. bassing305
Fishing down there in the land of released exotic pets Gars are a native species of fish and the exotics fight harder than most freshwater fish ever will.
bassing305
Nice. One of my first odd species on a SB was a gar. Gars are all over the place in the canals down here.Biggest one I caught on a swimbait was +50" in length and +20lbs(longnose gar). blackdynamite
