Ipleadthefish2
Hey underground!! I'm thinking about getting into building some baits and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what types of wood work best for building glide/swimbaits?? Any and all advice is appreciated!! -ipleadthefish
Hhunn
Check out grass roots section...should be a couple threads that will help you out! The search bar is your friend too. MaxDistance
http://www.tackleunderground.com/ I would recommend Basswood blocks to start with. Can get at most hobby/craft stores. surfk9
As tyler mentioned basswood is a good product , another is poplar available at big box lumber stores...if you're just getting into making baits check out Azek PVC products (WATER PROOF)...shapes like wood similar tools to work it...BIG PLUS if water penetrates your top coat NO PROBLEMS won't blow out your finish & ruin the lure...as tyler linked you up to tackleunderground go to hard baits section & read Mark Poulson's "Why PVC"...enjoy good luck...it's an ADDICTING HOBBY...Go Fish!!! porkmeatballs
Basswood is pretty good. The grain in it isn't as prominent as in other types of wood which makes carving a lot easier Ipleadthefish2
