a_mum
So my 10” hudd/mag reel took a dump and I’m in the market for a new one . Unsure on which one to pick up. which one would you recommend over the other? for the Luna would you recommend the 300 or the 253 for hudds and mags as for the Calcutta d would you go for the 400 or the
Morph808
What size line do you use? If anything 25lb and above then 400 Calcutta or 300 Luna would be better.
a_mum
Well that varies from time to time due to pressure and water clarity but mostly 20 and 25 fluoro
bigpoppabass
Luv throwing hudds with my 401.
Flounder
The 401 is over kill for the hudd and mag for me, I use it for big glides. The 301 is what I prefer to have for both, but i even occasionally throw a hudd on my 201.
a_mum
How’s the line pick up on the 301 compared to a 401 , will probably pick up the Calcutta

The wider spool is helpful for hudd throwing, because pointing rod tip at lure is important imo to get a good hooksett. Wider spool makes it easy for my thumb to find spool for the pitching type casts I generally make with 20ish copoly or fluoro. Mikey at 316 suggests this point rod at bait technique for his big plastics on a utube vid for mission fish. Technique has helped learning curve for hudds. It seems weird at first. I don't use braid for hudds. P.S. 1 I have a 201, 301, and 401 on rigs. I like the 301 for cranking sbs, the 401 for hudds, and 201 for topwaters.
