9.9 Johnson ??????

I have a Johnson 9.9 with a 15hp carb on it. Is there any thing else i can do to make it faster? Would a diffrant prop help? I figured if any one would know i would ask you guys.Thanks Su

Yes a higher pitch prop will increase top end speed but you'll need to make sure that your boat isn't too heavy otherwise you won't even get it to plane out. You kind of have to experiment with full load boat gear and people.

that is a pretty small motor for a 16' V, if you are getting up on plane, I would be happy with that. A new prop won't give you any really speed increase unless the one you are using is completely wrong for that motor. 9.9 hp on a 16'V, don't expect miracles.

Yeah you are way under powered for that size boat. Even if you went through and completely reworked the motor to make it a 15 (which takes more than just the carb) you would still be under powered. If the motor is in good shape, sell it to someone looking for a kicker motor on a larger boat and use the money toward a 25 or 35 hp for yourself.
