Jut Posted November 4, 2012 Report Share Posted November 4, 2012 I have a Johnson 9.9 with a 15hp carb on it. Is there any thing else i can do to make it faster? Would a diffrant prop help? jolley Posted November 4, 2012 Report Share Posted November 4, 2012 Yes a higher pitch prop will increase top end speed but you'll need to make sure that your boat isn't too heavy otherwise you won't even get it to plane out. Bass Addict Posted December 3, 2012 Report Share Posted December 3, 2012 that is a pretty small motor for a 16' V, if you are getting up on plane, I would be happy with that. A new prop won't give you any really speed increase unless the one you are using is completely wrong for that motor. 9.9 hp on a 16'V, don't expect miracles. Even if you went through and completely reworked the motor to make it a 15 (which takes more than just the carb) you would still be under powered. If the motor is in good shape, sell it to someone looking for a kicker motor on a larger boat and use the money toward a 25 or 35 hp for yourself.
