Topwater in January

Caught this 5.10 this morning on a FS Bass Floater. Not a giant, but it was a fun fish for a couple of reasons: It happened at 11am with bluebird skies the morning after a cold front in January. It was the third cast to the same pylon. On the first cast, I saw the fish rise and flash, but not commit. I slowed it down for the second cast; nothing. I remembered a post by Ceasar recently where he mentioned changing up retrieves fishing the same area. So I brought it back much more erratically the third time around and she slammed it! Very fun for me to see that in action. Thanks for the tips shared here, it felt great putting it to use 8-)

Thanks y'all. I wouldn't have expected that bite either, which is what made it more fun. Keeps me guessing about how bass are "supposed" to act.

Because I know somebody is going to ask -- the air temp was in the low thirties at sunrise. No idea what the water temp was.

Ha, I have no idea, either. Never turned on the FF. Probably in the mid 50's.
