Any luck on the Mattlures Hammer Tail Shad?

Hey SU,

Thinking about grabbing a couple Hammer Tail shads for the fall bite but I haven't seen any catches on them. I've watched KeepinItReel's review vid, bait looks amazing, I just haven't heard of anyone catching on it. Any luck or info before I take the plunge?

I have had success fishing my hammertail bluegill, catching my PB on it. I actually fish it two ways, as a jig and on a straight moderate retrieve. I have not done well creeping it. I assume the shad will be the same story, fished more like you would a spinnerbait. I hope this helps

I heard there were problems with the tail separating / tearing from the body fairly easily.  I decided to pass on them, after hearing that and the lack of documented catches on them.  Just hearsay, no personal experience.  I totally agree that they look awesome and they seem like they should have a lot of potential.

I lost about 6lb bass at the  bank my first time using one the other day. Its got good action and casts like a bullet on my set up

I like mine catch some small fish on it. Have to throw it in few places due to the hook placement and the amount of weeds in the lakes. Never had a tail come off.

I have never figured out any of his soft plastics. The hammer tail action  just seems unnatural to me so I haven't thrown it much.  Seems durable tho.
