Some 3:16 fish

I never really post many fish here for some reason. Here’s some 3:16 fish from this year. Nothing huge. Couple of 5s. Caught a ton of fish on the wake jr, shad, 8” fs, and 10” wake. Had a few fish on the workhorse, OG arm, and 10” fs too5 points -

Oh da shiz, BuzzedBait, MossyPumpkin and Big Slant
BigSlant and 3 others reacted to 95ShelbyGt for a topic
I have done two purchases recently one with @oh da shiz and another with @buzzed bait, and both of them were more than positive experiences. Jason and Justin both were super helpful, fast with shipping, more than fair with pricing and just all around great, honest guys to deal with. I would recommend buying from them to anyone. A class guys for sure. I have also received a lot of help with locating a heaping pile of baits that I have been trying to get put under the tree and I wanted to give Jesse @Mossypumpkin, @Neill Hernandezand @BigSlant a shout out as well because they've been super helpful to me as well. Super stoked with all the baits I have gotten my hands on so far, and I am looking forward to taking the advice from these dudes and applying it to final buys in my Christmas Bait buying frenzy. All in all I have had a more than positive experience buying from the members on this site. So stoked my previous purchases as well as the two I am in the middle of completing, I will give reviews on those guys once they're purchased but in all, I have found so many members on this site to be more than pleasant to deal with.4 points -

Fishing line conditioner
Dirty Diesel and 2 others reacted to waynem for a topic
I spent some time looking into the technology of the KVD product. I have been using this for years but after learning more about it I am now even much more impressed. Also I would like to say upfront that my expertise is in compounding things together into a plastic product versus putting a coating onto the surface of a plastic product. There is some overlap in the chemistries but there are also differences. Again, I'm no coatings expert. RMR Industries in Texas is the company making the product. The story is that Rob Faddis, president of RMR bought an older boat, stored it over the winter, and found lots of mildew and degradation on it when he went to use it the following spring. He wasn't satisfied with the then-available cleaning/protecting products so as a chemist he spent several years formulating something that would be compatible with a variety of polymers and would perform several functions. The KVD product does not contain oils or solvents. It is a blend of polymers- likely short-chain types that are liquid form. There is also a UV stabilizer component so it serves as an additional sunscreen for your line. The product works by bonding to the surface of the fishing line and according to what I have read does not penetrate into the line. What is REALLY impressive to me is that RMR has developed a conditioner that works with all 3 types of fishing line: fluoroploymer, braid (ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene) and nylon (polyamide) monofilament. Those are 3 very different polymers and getting a single product to bond to the surface of all of them is no small feat. I did a lot of formulation work to improve adherence of additives within a plastic matrix but generally the funtionalizers I used worked with only one specific type of resin. So RMR likely uses a blend of polymers with different functionalities (I'm guessing) but then has to compatibilize them all together so they don't separate out. Pretty impressive work and its no wonder it took years to develop. As to how the product works, first it provides a very thin film bonded to the line surface that repels water. That helps in casting distance and also helps keep dirt and junk from accumulating on the line surface. The polymer coating fills in pores on the line surface so you get a smoother line. And the surface coating is what wears off in casting over time so you sacrifice the coating rather than wear the line. As I mentioned it contains a UV component to help with sun degradation. I have no idea how it works to reduce kinking without penetrating the surface of the line, but it clearly does that well. If it does not penetrate into the line there should be little impact on the elongation or tensile strength of the line, and I've never heard of any complaint of that type. Very much a multifunctional product that is very different from some of the others on the market that are merely silicone oil. The company literature says that Kevin VanDam was a co-developer of the product. I think it was RMR doing all the chemistry formulation and Kevin doing all the field testing. By the way, I often hear some disparaging comments about "pro" anglers but some years back a buddy of mine made it to the Bass Master Classic, and our room in the hotel was right next to KVD's so we would see him and the family a few times every day. My impression is that he is a genuinely nice guy. After doing some research on this product I think I will be using it even more often than I have been. The best way to apply it is to spray the spool and let it dry before fishing. Even better is to spray it on a piece of synthetic cloth (not cotton) and run your line through the cloth. You need to do this before you hit the water for best results. I'm now thinking that it would probably pay to apply it to the last few feet of line a few times every trip since that is the part that takes a beating casting big swimbaits. I learned a bunch while doing the research and hope some of this helps SU guys.3 points -

7" Gill Glide/Swimmer Project
azsouth and 2 others reacted to danthefisherman for a topic
Finished scaling most of the main body today and my hands are cramping from it all haha. Scaling is always tricky because the wood can be prone to cracking and/or flaking if your tools aren't sharp enough. Mine are starting to blunt out so I had to be extra careful. The scales are also pretty shallow so I'm just hoping it'll show well when I pour resin duplicates. Now I'm on to smoothing down the head detailing one more time and scaling the gill plates. The last thing to do before molding is to finish scaling the more delicate areas around the joint.3 points -

I haven’t had much love on the swimbaits the last few trips. Which is weird because I know the bass are eating tilapia! Like this 18” fish I found floating with an 8” tilapia wedged in its mouth. Both were still alive and swam off after I invited them to a photo shoot and released them.1 point -

Yeah, you read that correct... SU first? Worlds first? Haha heres a handmade piranha wakebait that I made. Took about 8 hours in total, and I think it was well worth it. Coming in at 3.8 oz and 7 inches. This thing is THICC! Made from a 2x4 and lexan lip and tail. This thing has a massive 'v' wave and a loud knocking sound. I have included videos of the action for reference. Very similar to a slammer. Let me know what you guys think, is it a keeper or should I let it go? Swim Video1 Swim Video21 point -
