  1. I have become a garmin fanboy in recent years. IMO you cant really go wrong with the Garmin Striker 4. I have the 7” version and its mostly great. Fish and structure are pretty crisp on screen and a lot of customization options. The only con I noticed was that my unit gives me a false bottom which is up almost a foot or two above the actual lake bottom (not sure why). I know these things can start costing a buncha money but IMO it is 100% worth spending the extra money to get a bigger screened unit
  2. Look into the St. Croix Premier 7’ heavy. Darn thing is a beef stick. I like fishing weedless swimbaits on it and have even gotten way with throwing 6” hudds. I can show some photos of the rod later. Its pretty heavy and could he hard on the wrists however.
  3. Its not japanese. I remember seeing those on tacklewarehouse. Its supposed to imitate a blueback herring! I cannot find the name of the bait though https://majorleaguefishing.com/pro-circuit/2010-08-03-blueback-maniacs/
  4. Im currently getting my M.S. studying stream fish communities. I spend more time studying fish than fishing unfortunately
  5. Late response, sorry. I hand tie marabou jigs and use them during the carp spawn. Usually April- May when carp are super concentrated in back bays spawning is when i actively target them with jigs. I caught my biggest carp on these jigs. I blind cast for them but I bet that if i could sight cast for them with clear water I would catch way more. This year i was messing with the tiny Lunker City Hellgie with some success. It can be super hit or miss- either they eat like mad or they ignore you completely. I go fishing for big trash fish becaUse i cant catch bass lol.
  6. not going to lie, I actively fish for them with hair jigs and have caught some on keitechs. In fact, carp season is coming up LOL
  7. Jj’s is too permanent to use on my swimbaits. I ordered procure super gel in gizzard shad, crawfish, and garlic so ill tell you how those go. And btw, megastrike attractant is freaking AWESOME- I use it on my and everything else
  8. I never noticed swim-bladders sticking out of their mouths or eyes popping out but I sort of had a hunch that 30ft was pushing the depth limits. I reeled them in sorta slow so that they wouldn't explode from pressure change. Catch and release is only fun if the fish actually survive
  9. Hey guys, this maybe an odd topic (not swimbait related) but I’m a little concerned about the fish I caught and released today. I had a killer day fishing for freshwater drum and caught about 15 fish + a PB. I caught most of them in about 28-30ft of water (really 32ft but the fish came up off the bottom) and it occurred to me that maybe I have condemned these fish to death because of pressure change. All of the ones I released were able to get to the bottom (I saw it on the fish finder) but maybe me catching them is detrimental to their health and that takes the fun out of it. What do you guys think about catching fish from these depths? Is it worth catching them if i intend to release them? Thanks!
  10. Im digging the profile and the paint scheme. If you have the action down, thats the hardest part. Dont be afraid to carve off more wood over all!! also, sand paper homie!!
  11. I dont want to opt in, just wanted to say my piece. This is a great community, I have had someone extend their generosity to me in a similar way. Just wanted to say that I hope it goes to a genuine person. Good on you man!!
  12. What a result. Well worth the effort of repainting!
