Boogie Back bite still on!
aholodnick and 7 others reacted to 168 Rookie for a topic
Got out right at sunrise yesterday morning; it had rained all night and it was still windy, so the pond was chocolatey and there was a good chop on the surface. the topwater bite was slow and dinky, so I started cranking it down and was able to find two keepers.8 points -
It is because our way of naming or defining a “swimbait” is flawed to begin with. If any bait that swims is a swimbait then 90% of conventional baits fall into this category as well. Therefore classifying a bait being swimbait by its action is not accurate. Then that leaves us with size. However, there have been conflicting infos about sizes too lol. 6” or more? 8” or more? It does not matter; a 8” Keitech is still not a swimbait in most guys’ dictionary. So go figure. With that being said, my personal opinion is that our way of identifying a swimbait is flawed to begin with; mixed with too much conflicting info and too much personal feelings instead of objectivity. I believe the Japanese have a much a better way. If you browse a Japanese site and search “swimbait”, you will get small to medium paddle tails less than 6 or 8”. While everything bigger than 8” is called “big bait”. I think we got too caught up with the term “swimbait”; giving it too much glorify or the cool factor. Just fish whatever you like, swimbait or not; but it’s gotta be big and cool though lol. Tight lines!7 points

White labels feels stiffer than most and allow for ease of use with swim baits in the 1-5oz category. I actually feel like they top out at 4oz but thats me. They seem like they won’t bend under load like the softer rods offered by other company’s. This is FAR from the truth. The MH fishes treble baits in the rating range very effectively and the fish stay stuck like Velcro. The action can throw some people off, even did me at first and I’ve used LDC since day one, but Ben had these tapers made custom and they are the freaking juice. I’ve used them time and time again and if you can get one they are very very hard to beat. LDC was the first swim rod builder to offer a “production” line up for big bait guys and that experience definitely shows thru in the white label line up. Thin blanks, dynamic actions and plain fishability.5 points

I continue to have the sub 30" curse. Started with a flashabou bucktail today and got two follows and a dink to eat it, both follows turned off as soon as I started the 8. Put on the trusty magslowl and got one to eat almost instantly on the start of an 8, didn't even see her follow. Got the second fish "spidermaning" a 90° wall and I though she was my 30+ for sure. She got hooked funny and was coming in sideways. Regardless of size a pike is a pike so I'm always stoked to have so much action5 points

OG LDC custom xh
5150KokaneeEaters and one other reacted to swimbaitrookie for a topic
So maybe not true "OG" since I don't know how many were built before it but circa 2011 custom build. Was originally spiral right with micro guides but re-wrapped straight last fall with Fuji k-series guides by a local builder. Blank has minor scratches between the grips as shown and some areas where the finish is rougher but there are no deep scratches on the blank. Photos show everything I can find resembling a defect. This is a brute of a rod, not light and not dainty. But when you get bit in 20' of water on a 100' cast and need that big-azz beast hook to find home, this is your rod. It easily handles 3 to 6 oz baits and is what I consider a fact action. Selling because I'm buying a $$$ jdm rod to replace it. Rod will be shipped usps priority in a pvc pipe. PayPal accepted. Somewhat true but somewhat not. They did a collaboration with studio and tulala for some of their rods but the Artex and pulse rods are built in house by drt using Northfork composites blanks.1 point -

Why are these such a big part of the "swimbait" community? They don't appear to be much of a swimbait at all?1 point -

Also; there's a permanently pinned thread for waffling about what constitutes a swimbait. As far as I'm concerned a "swimbait fishing" group is as inane as a "curly tailed grub fishing" group. A tool's a tool, just one of many in the tool box.1 point -

Pre-frontal pike
danthefisherman reacted to CG_Fishes for a topic
More dink pike. Can't seem to break 30, gonna keep trying of course. The bigger of the 2 ate an 8" Mr. Zorba glide and missed but came back for the 7" magslowl as a follow up. Pictured here are 2 of 3 fish from the past week, since the third slipped out of my hands before I could take any pics. Not too bummed since it was another 24-26" and I was happy to see it swim off strong. I love these fish more than anything else though, something about them is just so special to me1 point -

WTK 9" KLASH VS riser jack VS HINKLE SHAD
daxhallmark reacted to SVT THUNDER for a topic
Totally different baits with extremely different actions. The Hinkle is a true Glide bait. Will swim with steady retrieves at multiple speeds. Also easily pops a 180. The Klash 9 is more of a rip bait, walk the dog surface lure and a crankdown. Very tight action. You have to learn how to work that bait. Where a nice glide will allow anyone to get a nice amooth action. Get aggressive with your rod pops and reel chops on the K9. Learn how to use the different modes. It has its place in a lineup. Search Klash 9 on google and hit videos. Guy works one in a pool on all modes. I never messed with a Riser Jack. So I can’t speak about that bait.1 point -
