Calico Bass on a @flaswimbaiter custom
flaswimbaiter and 6 others reacted to SDBayBassMan for a topic
We got a little weather window and it didn't disappoint. I upgraded my PB calico bass from a 7.56 lb to an 8.50 lb. I saw this one eat it about 15 feet from the boat and it's definitely one I won't forget. Stoked to have caught the big one on a bait given to me by my buddy at @flaswimbaiter. Thanks again Dave. Also, caught a 6.5 on a DRT Klash 9 on back to back casts.7 points -
Longest four pounder I’ve ever caught
aholodnick and 5 others reacted to danthefisherman for a topic
I don’t often post catches here unless they are notable, so here’s one: This fish bit on one of my “last casts” before heading in from a long day on the water. She dug down hard, and when I finally brought her up and saw her size I was almost positive she would be in the 6lb range (my three biggest bass were all similar size or shorter). Got her in the net and on the scale only to be surprised that she only weighed 4.68lbs…my guess a post spawner trying to fill back up on small bluegill. Still a fun fight and pleasant surprise.6 points -

Big cat on strong shad
aphaneuf16 and 3 others reacted to Born 2 fish for a topic
I stopped by a little 1 acre pond I fish and this 12 lb cat crushed the strong shad. I thought I had a giant bass at first. On a side note my tail came out of my shad do I just use regular super glue to glue it back in? Thanks Jason4 points -

interesting couple nights of fishing this memorial day weekend, love the new moon, cant state that enough hit a spot about an hour away, crawdad spot, you have go down a pretty steep hill and over some rocks, total ball buster of a spot to launch and land the boat but usually worth it. got out around 1130PM, hit 4 fish on the kenyon crawler (which has been a great new bait and has needed zero tuning after multiple catches), weird thing was 3 of the fish were the exact same weight 2lbs 1 1/8oz (weighed em on 2 scales) dropped or missed about 8 more went over to another area which is deep water (12ft) that goes up to 6ft over this weed flat, gives you about 12-18" of open water above the weeds, fishing popping everywhere, hit two more on the hiro billrilla (missed 4 more) fish were super tiny like 8-14" fish. I had brought the nameless 868 (xxh 6-14oz) rod paired with the conquest 400 and one big bait which was the illude double xl rat, if you haven't seen it, its massive all around, bigger than the adult cl8 possum for reference. That's an xl od rat & triple zombie in the pics. Figured if I had a bite id attempt to throw the illude just to see if it would cull some bigger fish, and it did. First cast its splashes down like someone throwing bricks off a bridge, its comical how loud and big of splash it makes, puts a smile on my face and i started chuckling like wtf is gonna eat this thing. about a 1/3 of the way back it gets completed blown up, fish goes down into the weeds and ends up being 2lbs 14oz, not the pb I'm after but still the best fish of the night proving the big bait gets bigger bites. a few casts later it gets smoked again, this was a big fish, pulled super hard and kept a big bend in the rod, ends up coming off in the weeds, total bummer. after a few swear words and complaining I make another cast to the opposite side of the boat, there's enough light off one of the few houses to see it waking on top, bait has a great knock (unique sound unlike anything else I own) bait gets slurped down, fish tries to shake it a few times, ends up in the net, solid even 4lber I take a break, haven't moved from this one spot, boats anchored, and just casting 360 around the boat, a few minutes later on the next cast to a different area, gets bit again, this time a chunky 2lb 8oz fish, crazy these fish are eating this bait and very very aggressively fish for another 30 minutes, no bites, throw the joker and I catch a 12" dink, head out as the bite dies at sunrise, productive night 10 fish landed, 4lber getting top honors, about 20 fish either missed/dropped, super stoked on the illude xl! crazy when you're throwing bait that size is every fish feel massive while pulling it thru the water behind a 10oz bait! decide I'm going back the next night same time and repeat the same pattern, less baits and more focused approach. this time first spot and first cast of the night hits my best fish so far of the season, I bomb a cast past a dock, this set up actually bombs that bait surprisingly well even out of the small boat. as the rat clears the dock the bait gets the most subtle hit, I lean into and set the hook, doesn't feel that big and just goes to the bottom but is pulling a little, I think its a smaller fish and decide I'll just boat flip it, until its closer and I realized it was a solid fish, slide her into the net and go to lift her out. fish is fat and super healthy, looks like she's still full of eggs (maybe) or just putting the feedbag on. couple pics/video and a weight 5lbs 8oz (again on both scales) been doing video and just pulling screen shots from it to help with a quicker release. ended up with 6 more fish landed on the crawler and raw baits trashy wake, so no first cast jinx for me. I'm not gonna lie I felt that bait in my shoulders and wrist the next day but was completely worth it, gonna keep it tied on that stick as much as possible this season and see if the bait will continue to draw bigger/better bites. Thanks for reading as always! tight lines-Chef3 points

Rat colors?
DrewManFishing and one other reacted to chefchris for a topic
Doesn’t matter to me as long as it has a nice knock (two piece) I have pink and yellow cl8 baby possums that get chewed both in wake and crankdown versions brown over white or solid brown is a winner for both again I want my rats to move more side to side than roll the pb rat rolls a lot where the mink/cl8 has a side to side movement, I know guys get bit on the pb but I prefer my rats to have minimal head roll noise and knock are key features for me too2 points -

Bullshad glide. Bait is amazing so far been throwing it a ton. Even stuck a nice 3.5 on it over the weekend. K9 in perch. It’s a Lo float and still not sure if I like this bait. I don’t think it does anything well. Will fish it more and see if I can figure it out. A hi float might be better off for my style2 points -

It’s a great way to do it; when I’m out by myself (90% of my trips if not more are solo) I put my phone on video on the “front” camera (selfie camera) and lean it against the side of the boat. This allows me to see the frame of the picture and then I’ll smile a couple times real quick and let the fish go. Then just go back and find a good still frame from the video to use as a photo. And solid fish OP! That’s one heck of a bait too1 point

Battle Shad review
Dink whisperer reacted to emjay for a topic
Purchased this bait from all the reviews. As a long time swimbaiter from over 10 years swimbait fishing. Yes, I've been in the game for a long time...let just say from when baby wakes use to cost around 42 dollars, which most of ya wouldn't even know. Getting to the point. For around $70, this bait is not really worth it. Dont get me wrong, I've caught fish from 2-5lbs with this bait. But body rips fairly easily and has bad hook up ratio even with 6/0 and 8/0 hooks. My 4.2 and 4.8 keitechs catch the same size fish for 1/10 the price. Not hating, just stating facts for new swimbaiters to not waste your money. It's all hype.1 point -

BayAreaAngler reacted to Spencer_518 for a topic
I’m definitely going to try this with that bait. For me I love a bait that is really reactive and can be twitches close to cover. I figure this would be my best bet for that because that’s what I see all over in the videos that are out there. I think the Lo float just isn’t for me but I’m going to keep messing with it1 point -

We need more softbait makers!
Habitual_lip_ripper reacted to Jinxd12 for a topic
I cant catch a softbait fish to save my life, and its not for not trying or commiting. I would recommend to watch the japanese fishing videos, and scroll japanese websites. Those guys over there have some pretty crazy soft baits they throw. Theres a few videos might be korea that a guy targets snakehead and throws a soft plastic and slays, its looks like a pretty big bait as well. Or if you feel like you lack choices, or dont want to pay, etc....make your own. Thats what Im doing!1 point -
I just acquired these recently, even though I already have an excessive amount of rats, I had to grab the 3 piece Alpha.1 point

I’ve reduced some variety in my collection of stuff so I can focus on what I like to throw and what I’m most confident in. Other than soft baits like magnums or hawghunter minnows that has led me to gather a few more UFOs (always at least one tied on) and switch most of my glides over to 8” buccas due to their versatility. All I need is more time to go fishing now.1 point -
