Calico Session - Boiler Fish

Hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to share a photo from a recent trip. Managed to get a 6.28 on an @flaswimbaiter custom. Weather was great and had an awesome couple of days on the water. Still looking for that 10 lb'er but always fun catching them on the Swimbait.8 points -

My roommate and I have been looking to get his old 14' StarCraft out for a few weeks now. We decided that since we were both off of work that today would be the day. Everything seemed to be going great. 4am wake up, pick up the boat and truck at 5:30, launch at 6:00. Boat hits the water and the motor won't run, starts but chokes out. 45 minutes later we find a leak in the fuel line. Nothing to fear though, we have an old 1980s 35lb thrust trolling motor that barely works. We decide to fish as far as we can with the trolling motor to see what we can do. I start the day hitting some small bass on a rock wall. Wasn't too long before we saw our first tiger surfacing. After 6 sightings I finally got her to swipe at an 8" walking bait. Unfortunately, she took the hook in the gill plate so I don't count as legit. A bit of a bittersweet first tiger catch. Quick pics and release, taped at 34" We keep fishing around, I put on my bone thunderhawk Cha Cha glide to fish around the weed beds. Not too long before another tiger blasts my bait 2 bumps into the retrieve, no hooks. Keep working down the bank to another rock wall, got a follow from a 6+ largemouth and another 30+" tiger. At this point I'm determined to catch one legit. I keep working down the bank, we come up on a point. I practically call my shot as 3 twitches into a cast on a shade line my bait gets T-boned by yet another tiger. After a fight that felt as if it lasted forever on my lighter rod we got her in the net. At this point the stoke was incredibly high. Got her out of the net and felt she needed a dip. My bait was stuck in the net so I attempted to hold her over the boat. One shake and she was gone. Bummed to have not gotten pics or measurements but happy she swam off healthy. Snapchat-1200913473.mp4 Continued to fish and the battery died on us, making me row the boat .5 miles back to the launch, smiling and laughing the whole day. Even when everything goes wrong, it all boils down to attitude, make your own luck My roommate also caught his first bass ever so that's a big win in my book. Needless to say, we will be going back ASAP.7 points

We’ve had some hot weather the last week or so. Today and tomorrow pushing 100. Dog days of summer but had to go out for a few hours this morning. Couldn’t buy a bite on top water for a few hours so gave up on that. Started cranking the Whippersnapper where I saw deep grass and was able to get 2 fish in the boat. They are chewing gills.3 points -

Not wanting to drop $250-300+ for a big wake bait by some pretty awesome builders I decided to build my own. SHE IS BIG! 1 1/2" thick, and 8 1/2" long. Not sure if the weight but it's heavy maybe 6-8oz on first swims. Just kind of drew a gill shape on some wood then when I cut it out I liked the profile better turned upside down. Glued 2 pieces of 3/4" poplar together to get the width. Went simple on the carving but finally added some lip details on the front. I have skipped them in the past but figured it needed something on the front for the size of the bait. When I went to mold it yesterday I ran out of silicone with a full kit of Oomoo 30 2.8#. I was worried I couldn't save the mold but bought another kit today and poured right over the one from yesterday. Worked good! Kind of just tinkered with it today but the swim and wake is badass I think.mogjt try to fish it in the morning. Well, I’m a gambling man and took a chance: Ordered them on July 13th, received them today July 23. The original arrival date was set between the 28th and Aug 1st. So they came early. They were in a box, that took a beating, which was inside a shipping bag, but I was confident the baits would be fine, and they were, including the packaging. I definitely wouldn’t order a rod from them, that’s for sure. Tracking is a lot different than I was used to, but I did get regular updates and was able to follow it until it arrived in the states. It was delivered by USPS, and that’s always a risk in itself. Thank you again @bassfiend72I appreciate the sharing of the link.2 points -

Still making this bait better! And feel like I'm getting better with the paint, nothing fancy yet, but @azfisherand @BrierBobare helping me out with some tricks! Thanks fellas! @Inkedup fishingsent me a war pig so I'm sending him one of these in a wake version. Got it painted and trying out the KBS Diamond clear coat dip, without a rotisserie. I have a bunch of these made now so I need to add lips and paint them up. Not sure if I should sell a couple for cheap if anyone wants them, or keep giving them to the peeps. I have been catching good fish on the crank down here in Az even when it's 110+ degrees, but it sucks fishing in the heat. Body gets sticky, stinky, and dehydrated haha. Here some pic updates.2 points -

I use a 360 degree camera mounted on the front of the kayak. With the 360 camera it guarantees I get the shot. I just edit the videos after and use picture in picture to show both the cast and myself. 2022-07-03.mp42 points -

C2C 3-15 on the Sherpa 3pc
Inkedup fishing reacted to AkimbaLL704 for a topic
Went out on one of my favorite reservoir’s yesterday and figured that If I caught a nice one on the Sherpa that morning, I figured they’d still wanna eat it even in the middle of the day. After about 20 minutes of fishing around docks I watched my Sherpa swim out a few feet from the dock, I saw her come up and totally destroy it! You can see in the video if you look extremely closely in the right hand corner, you can see her come up and grab it! Sherpa puttin in work! FullSizeRender.MOV1 point -
I was able to fit the two 3700 plus had room for more swimbait wraps, an extra reel, a 40oz hydro flask on the side, and everything else i needed throughout the day. great bag1 point

Shallow crank UFO mothership in female gill. Bait has been used, hit a side of a bridge and it left a tiny chip that I filled in w red paint marker. Honestly not sure what they’re worth in terms of trades. Would love to get a Pizz for it. Willing to add for some of them of course. Shoot any high end trade offers. Pizz takes priority. Idk about anyone else but this years been rough for the big baits. Needed this kind of session, as short as it was. 3 hrs, 3 fish, 1 c2miss (fish missed the bait actually) I got one of the ufo c2c but the video is a little too dark, not post worthy. Do u guys use an app to adjust the darkness so u can see the video better? Just curious QUIK_20220721_232218.mp41 point

Hardware came in, so I poured one before work, and one after work. I like the smooth cast product this time around, longer working time and seems like a different feeling to the bait in general. Also Im glad I added the side fins, gives the bait a better look in my opinion. Got them half assembled this morning before work. Lots of sanding and addi g the weight before I send them out for some R&R and fish pics. Don't mind the messy work station, it'll be cleaned up this weekend.1 point -

Muskie
danthefisherman reacted to Jim137a for a topic
Absolutely couldn’t find any bass today - threw swimbaits for hours and only saw 1 bass up shallow - my buddy fished conventionally and caught 1 bass about 14 - I have no idea where they are. The muskies were extremely active - I raised 6 on a 7” BGC glide painted ny BNA Customs - 3 ate the bait hard but 2 managed to wrap me up on the timber and spit the hooks. Fishing in standing timber and hooking a Muskie is an absolutely intense close quarters combat situation - total rush. IMG_9550.MOV1 point -
