I think Jesse nail it. Here is one over 8lbs on the K9, a little over 10. The ghost is one bait I could not get a fish on, had one about 4lbs but came unbuttoned. For me the sweet spot is between 6 and 8 inches for consistent catching.

You are on fire. Congrats and I am sure you will get that teener soon. When you say trip, it that a drive to your local lake and fish for four days or is that you travel away to "hog heaven".

If it is your boat you are legally responsible for them, so if they are not wearing it and something happens you may have a problem. You know how this world is now and see all the layer ads, it's like free money. Like others have said your boat your rules.
