  1. I stuck this hog years ago on a 95 degree day, fishing from shore and the lake at that time of the year was heavy with fresh and decomposing grass, the waters edge was looking skinny back then. I was fishing conventionally with lipless crankbaits, flyline senkos and topwaters as I normally do during the summer months. This fish is the reason why I started putting a couple of hours more fishing time instead of taking off after have caught a couple of bucks. When the wind with light surface chop starts to show, the sun pulls high and the water clears up. Man throw any weedless hudd in the the thick of the grass and lanes in between grass transitions. Look for openings in the grass. Use at least 20lb. test because of snags and grass. Throw the lure and wait until the line sinks all of the way to the bottom. The bucket mouth weighed just under 8 lbs. my second to largest with a hudd. caught in the summer of 2012. I posted a report on swimbait nation back then. I did mention splashdown lure retrieve now this. Also try the 1000 countdown. On splashdown, one-one thousand, two-one thousand, however deep you want the lure. This tech. also works with hudds and small gliders. So try the middle. Why not try the weedless technique when the weather is nice and warm, and when the fish are active and not "hibernating" during winter...so to speak. If there are openings in the grass then I would try.
  2. As far as the rof 12, try pulling the lure as soon as it splashes down on top. If not try the bottom. Both techniques do actually work.
  3. A G.Loomis rod would be a high price point rod that works for years.
  4. Yeah. That's a great book regarding trophy bass!
  5. The conditioner I use for Izor and Pline is Reel Magic. I suppose anyone will work. Also as mentioned by another user the uni knot and double uni works great, as well as the palomar.
  6. It's great line especially the 25lb. Very popular in California. I have been using this since the old triple fish camo line was discontinued. This line might be the best for 8" hudds on a 400 sized reel. You may never snap off a bait ever again. Knock on wood. Do a quick search or my old album for some izorline fish. P line 20lb is also good for your 300 sized reels.
  7. I have used baking soda mixed with super glue to fill small dings on my punker then sanded after dried. Deco Art makes DAS12 fixative and waterproof sealer, the lure will then will have to be coated with epoxy or whatever is your choice. To my liking though, wood baits should be fished bare and repaired with simple super glue or varnish for buoyancy sake. Lure maker's can help.
  8. Yup. There is a picture of it on the Tater Hog site.
  9. Not sure if this off topic, but to estimate the weight of a fish is it not just the length of the fish but also the girth of the fish with a tape measure wrapped around the belly of the fish? No disrespect for ya'll using measuring boards. Nice catch though!
  10. There was another site back then... Swimbait Nation.com which no longer exist. Professionals always take heat unfortunately.
  11. Yep...great watch. I think he could go on about swimmers for days. I am convinced that it's the reason why he gets bit, by sharing information. Hope T.B. does well in the dirty.
  12. Yep...The old Trout Tungstens get chewed up.
  13. Also consider copolymer line. Pline CXX 20lb (mono I believe) and Izorline XXX 25lb (copolymer). Great line to re-use over and over with conditioner. You will not snap off big baits with either choice, and say NO to Biden for good blessings and freedom of speech. Good Luck!
  14. Yep...just ignore them and log in manually. Never open mail unless you are expecting a reply or request.
  15. Pro Cure made from real fish oils. It's a by product from the salmon industry so it's legit and works on hudds. Very popular in California.
  16. Thanks... that was a good old site 10 years back.
  17. 20lb P Line CXX Clear is good. I also stand by 25lb Izorline XXX. Both are just as good as a fresh spool of 15lb Big game. No lure snaps(hopes). Smooth sailing. Line conditioner is good to use with mono or co-poly. Good luck!
  18. Yep. Pull the lure slow over or around chunk rock slowly. Given there are no weed lines that hassle you. Not exactly like a jig IMO. I keep the handle moving. Swimbait City Don has different techniques on pulling swimmers along the bottom for big ones.
  19. For both of those that should be $30 max.
  20. Though I have never fished with it. I have read good things on this site about the Cl8 Possum. Curious about other baits as well. I use the Rat 50.
