  1. Forgot to mention that the fish he caught with conventional lures were only just over 5lbs. I do believe that we promote fish over 8lbs. More like over 10lbs. At the lakes I fish, a "buzz jet" and especially spinnerbaits spook off the bigger bass period! Why? Because they see them everyday. Not saying that they will not eat them. I have caught bass close to 7 lbs on a spinnerbait. However, several pounds heavier on 8" baits. More opinions? Do post.
  2. Don't give up. This is the best support group for anglers. We all struggle with it, even with lure presentations that we have been successful with before. Our skill level is based on how patient we are, a matter of luck or just being at the right place at the right time. I guarantee you if you keep throwing swimmers, you will cross paths with a fish that eats them. Make sure you spend your spare time planning and fishing if you can do so.
  3. If you don't own any, try out the Jackall Mickey and the injected shellcracker cranked just below the surface or a bit further down. Those work during hot temps in clear water, around weeds and near chunk rock or other shallow cover. 168's work in the transparent colors. Same with the other two mentioned above. All three are fish catchers.
  4. Glad to hear if true. That was going to be my secret for retirement. I know for sure there are fish bigger than 9lbs that there. The bluff walls in the back are way too deep and the bass are damn near impossible to be caught in there.
  5. I used to live in the area years back. A friend of mine and myself saw a dead bass that was in the 15 pound class in the coves far back. There are definitely toads for sure there but the weather just gets to damn hot to fish.
  6. I think I'll just stick with what I have been using. I use them several days per week. Not only on the weekends. I think the newbs should but a Calcutta B, Curado or look into another brand like I wrote. Good Luck!
  7. Never had this issue on my 300 nor 400. I just get them serviced about once a year but not always. They are both nearly 10 years old. I think most just buy a new one or move on to another reel choice.
  8. This is a decent deal. That old gill does work with 3-4 BB's. That's is if the 4th BB fits plus the pin.
  9. Follow the Video. If you don't glue the harness to the plastic. You will end up with only the harness and watch the plastic fly away. A bit of super glue goes a long way. Use Mend It to seal the remainder of the plastic.
  10. Yeah Fox Sports-"Stoked on Fishing" has some good video of that spot. Let us know how it goes with the swimmers!
  11. I have been using my same old Cardiffs for eight years they both work just fine. I would say yes if your lake does not have Striped Bass in there. I would go with a Calcutta or a Curado.
  12. I would have words with my mail carrier. Be nice to him or her. Find out their name and report them. It seems that people are encouraged to just drop it off and not care anymore. The postal worker should have left a form or any info on how to file a complaint if it was not their fault. The package would have not left the post office in that condition. It was your carrier.
  13. I would have to say to approach them with stealth. The pack you spotted likely frequent the area you fish and may have been well aware of plastic worm or creature imitations. Including jerk baits and lipless crankbaits. Especially if you are fishing California reservoirs. A drop shot, jerk bait etc. is not stealth for any Bass over 7 pounds in Cali. I have seen the same type of wolf packs well over five pounds that are obviously looking for the Rainbow Trout. In your case it was the bluegill, more likely Red Eared Sunfish. I have caught them by fan casting from shore to 15 feet of water and moving the lure at a medium to fast retrieve. Begin your retrieve as soon as the bait splashes down. Don't let the lure sink to the bottom. Remember medium. Not Slow. This has not worked for me with hard baits, but has worked with soft swimmers that look like the real thing. The pack you spotted likely frequent the area. Fan cast the area. The splashes on the surface will not spook them if they are active.
  14. Hey Sam. Check out my Gallery post for some info.
  15. I like it but that bait swims more like an ROF 5 or 12. I think the bladder(s) are filled with water. An ROF 0 sits on the surface for a fair amount of time even with two hooks rigged. Opinions?
  16. Tactical Bassin went over the technique a while ago. I have not seen much on the topic since then. The technique is used for docks, bridges and shoreline. I would just make sure to just use soft plastic swimmers if anything, I have never gotten a single bite doing so. Maybe some one else who gets bit this way can chime in.
  17. I would say when you feel in doubt. But I guess that would just be a mental thing. Do Whatever it takes to clear your mind.
  18. Thanks again for posting. I have read about good sized catfish in there, did not know about the Bass. Your secret is safe with us!
  19. Oh my....not saying your bait won't catch fish but it's not a huddle.
  20. No. You should glue the harness and mend the rest of the plastic together carefully.
