Funny that you all knowing fishermen say that with such authority. My phenix 790H ultra swimbait classic with a Luna 300 and 30# CXX still throws a giron fine, and it's caught some fish in the 6# range. When the bass are on that size of bluegill, it's hard to get them to eat much else. Is it ideal? no... Will it cast it? Absolutely. One thing to remember is that the Okuma rods are a little optimistic with their ratings. I think you'll be fine throwing baits in the 1oz range with it, and it will be perfect for baits up to about the size of a big rising son. The only thing you are going to have to worry about, is trying to horse fish with a big rod and straightening hooks on really small baits. Better to be a little over your rating, than under it. The sweet spot on okuma rods is generally about 1/3 - 1/2 of it's max rating. Food for thought.

3:16 linethrough gill gets bit pretty well for me. I haven't caught any real giants on it, but It swims better at all speeds than the gills mentioned above. You can also easily modify it to be a top hook if need be.

I played with a buddy's "D" on a fishing trip in april... wait... did I just say that? lol The D is very smooth. It almost reminds me of a pluton the way that it feels. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if I was in the market for another shimano. That being said, I prefer the Luna and CV-Z 300.

Also realize that (and I know that I'll get chastised for this so bring it on you bunch of fayghetts... lol) Sometimes you have to be willing to feed the fish what they want and not what you want them to eat. I'm guilty of it too. I want them to eat a Hudd, so damnit... I'm going to throw it until my arm falls off. They may be keying in on smaller bait fish, craws, etc. If they are eating 3" shad or craws it's not going to be easy to get them to eat a big bait. This is why I throw swimbaits, but have always reserved the right to have a jig box with me haha. I mean ish... It's about catching big fish, right? If I have to switch it up from time to time and throw a 1oz single colorado blade, or a Jig to catch them that's what I'll do. Just make sure that you do it with your swimbait rod so that it counts hahaha.
