  1. Haha, yeah first thing I did the next day! It was an older spool that I had, figured it was still good, apparently it wasn't. It wasn't even a birds nest, the line just snapped on the cast.....if you zoom in on the recovery photo, you can see the knot still attached t the snap......oh well, live and learn. And as far as the name, you can thank Warren Zevon.......
  2. Not rare, not even beat up too bad, but this was my first big bait and it will always be special to me for that. This 7" slammer also "found me" twice. Fishing at night and with some bad line, cast it off into the darkness from shore, about 45 min. later as I continued working my way around the pond it floated to my feet, not knowing my line was crap, I took off the other bait I had switched to and tied this back on. About 1/2 hour later the line snapped again....and it sailed off....again! I went back for days scouring the pond, walking around the perimeter, out in the kayak and never found it. I gave up, bought another and moved on. Almost 4 weeks later, I was out in the yak and threw my triple trout into the overhanging bushes and tangled up. When I went to retrieve the tt and looked down under the bushes it was there bobbing, waterlogged, tail missing and rusty.....
  3. Spent three great years in Ohio for school, great state, friendly people, loved it. I fished lake St. Mary's a bit back then. There were lots of small ponds to chase bass around in, just need to spend some time with the maps.
  4. You can find those carbon rods at model airplane hobby shops online in small lengths. You'll just need to measure the o.d. There is also a place in Nashua, NH, RC Buyers Warehouse, that may have some if that's close to you.
  5. The 250 is a great bait, but if your not setup to throw it (proper rod and reel) it's not gonna be a lot of fun, the bites will be few and far between with the smaller fish and your going to struggle to keep at it all day. Downsize the swimbait somewhat to something you can throw all day and may actually get a few bites on before moving up to the 250. So many great baits out there, ms slammer, Mattlures, 3:16, Hiroshima, Toxic, Nates, etc.....
  6. My next one will be the softest, I know it.....bubblegum.....
  7. I like a team that can win with the 3rd string QB......Patriots! â˜
  8. Mattlures Strong Shad 8.5" Dark Gizzard
  9. So I went back on his web page and he has the 10" bait I referenced above, which is marked as 1 1/4 on the head, as Extra Heavy. I can only assume it's beyond that of a Heavy marked H from seeing that.
  10. If you want a direct answer from Scott Whitmer himself, he is very responsive to emails. I believe there is a contact link on his web page, tripletrout.com.
  11. I'm fairly certain that 1 1/4 is the added lead to make it a fast sinker / heavy model. I have a 10" model with the same designation. It's meant to fish deep and stay down.
  12. Both of mine arrived today, shipped together. Rof 5 devlord and silver trout.
  13. Today's arrival....Northern Lights...
  14. I had a beaver grab my popper, thought I had a great fish.....then I saw him.....fought the sucker for twenty mins or so because he had taken my entire fly line off the reel and I wasn't going to give it up as it costs so much. Once I had my fly line back on the reel, and with the angry pissed off beaver only about 9' from my rod tip, I popped the leader.....he kept the popper piercing.
  15. Great reels, I have several of the rocket versions, work great. There was a model called a "jerkbaiter" made with the thumb bar.
  16. Ah, wasn't my copied text, was jibaroyak's, but I see what your saying. It's similar here in NH, witness required to hooking, boating and landing, 2 witnesses to weighing, and fish must be presented to conservation officer or fisheries biologist. Well, since I fish alone about 99% of the time, I'll never qualify regardless. A shame they make the angler choose to kill a catch if he wants to be recognized for the state record fish. A hi five indeed for them releasing the fish.
  17. What I was trying to explain, and may not have been clear about, is the certification of the scale itself, not necessarily the process for record documentation. The IGFA requires a scale to be accurate to within one increment or a 1/2 lb. The state departments of weights and measures certify all scales and weighing devices according to the national conference on weights and measures standards as listed in their publications. I am just not sure if this standard is the same as IGFA or not and if the state would accept it without it being officially certified by the state's department of weights and measures.
  18. Lol, I wasn't worked up at all. That frog rod will be a much better match for the g2's.
  19. A personally certified scale won't likely be sufficient, the state certification is a different standard. The state would not have certified your scale, the IGFA would have. A states department of weights and measures may be able to certify your scale however.....would certainly be worth looking into.
  20. Nice catch! Definitely great baits. Just got my first blowup on a 10" wake last night...and missed it....doh....
