  1. The title says it all! My swimbait journey started last fall with a flipping rod and a dream- had a few eats but the stiffness of that rod pulled the hooks every time. I upgraded to a Dobyn's Fury 806 and a Shimano Cardiff around Christmas-time and fished HARD. I didn't have any Hudds to drag on the bottom, so I fished glides all winter. Kept at it, skunk after skunk, knowing that getting that first fish would take time. Fast forward to today; I had just gotten a TK that I traded a Deps SK for (shoutout to Joshua if you see this; thanks bro!), and had already had two follows in hella muddy water. My buddy and I hit up a lake we had only been to once or twice before, and after about 5 minutes of casting, I watched the smaller fish eat it at my feet. AT MY FEET! After boat flipping it to the bank, I felt like a huge weight had lifted off of me. I've always said, you might not catch a fish every time you go, but sometimes, you catch a fish when you need to. I also found out today that my mom would have to start legit chemo after taking it in pill form for the last several years- it's almost like everything lined up to catch that first fish- I needed it for sure. The second fish- a bona fide 4 poundah came about 30 minutes later while I was giving the TK the ole Bill Dance (think- twitch twich PAWS) and BOOM. Smoked it. Choked it. Swallowed it whole. Learning to fish swimbaits all winter has finally paid off, and damn does it feel good. Hopefully the rest of the week will look like today, or better! Thanks to everybody on here for sharing y'alls knowledge and experiences! - appstlhd
  2. Howdy swimbaiters,New member here! Been working on a new white bass shaped swimmer for fall fishing. Have the ballast in there slightly nose heavy so it falls and darts to the side a bit on the pause. Painted this one for going after pike. It's one of my favorite easy paint jobs that works for me. I have some small changes to make in the next mold but would appreciate any input. Let me know if this is something you would fish with. Going to paint a few more to take the boy out this weekend if I get the time. VID_20230812_161126682~2.mp4
  3. I’ve started a new project. This is my third attempt of making a working glide bait. It is a 2 piece shad imitation. I plan on using urethane fins, and casting this for resin. The joint will be a door hinge style. The dark spots on the front were where I put the eyes that I decided to move and filled with homemade wood filler. I’m probably making this too complicated but I’m really excited to get this together. I’m taking my time with this, getting the right tools and materials as I go. Any tips on making molds and casting resin would be greatly appreciated! Thanks SU
  4. So I have a 796, 806, and a 908 coming. I’m thinking about trading in the 806 (current deps 250 rod) for the 867, does anyone know if dobyns is gonna charge me out the ass to change to a rod in the same series? ( the 867 is $30 more than 806) I like the 806 for my 250 but the 867 is supposed to be the jam, I like throwing alot of close casts near cover with the 250, is the 867 still good for the short precise casts? and would a 796, 867, and a 908 be a good line up to cover all my treble baits 3oz and up?
  5. Hey Everyone, I am new to the big bait game but I recently started throwing them in a pool just to learn mechanics and stuff. Right now my setup is a Daiwa DX 8’ MH with a Lexa HD 300. Most of the baits I own are in the 7-7.5” range. I found that when throwing them on the setup I have it was tough to get them to swim and dart, it seemed almost like the rod was too overpowering and making them roll or just wash out. Just for Kicks I decided to try them out on a smaller lighter rod so I put them on a 7’1” MH and it seemed like those Baits really came alive and we’re so much easier to control. Even my Jointed Claw 230s seemed to have trouble on the heavier rod. Do I just suck that bad or is there a tip for using smaller lighter rods for bigger Baits. Now I do understand that bombing a long cast on a lighter rod isn’t advisable with heavier stuff but would I be able to comfortably throw something in the 2-4oz range on say a 7’6” MH, or should I just practice more?
  6. Has anyone used nameless swimbait rods? Wondering about quality.
  7. After thousands of casts later finally stuck a good one that pinned the bait to the bank and surged violently and attacked the head of bait.
  8. Had the pleasure of taking Ike out for a big bait trip at the end of March. He’s been wanting to get the glide bait dialed in so he hit me up for a quick trip. Conditions lined up and we got em pretty good. Ike landed this 7+lb Jersey giant to cap off an absolutely incredible trip IMG_1239.mp4 IMG_1240.mp4
  9. Hello everyone I'm new to swimbait fishing and I was told that this was a good place that I can get help. If I'm not posting in the right place please let me know. I'm here in Florida and I want to get my new PB and I have seen the best way to do it is on big swimbaits. My current record is 7lbs not small but not the biggest either. I am also a soft plastic bait maker as well also do alot of saltwater fishing...... anyways back to the point I have 0 experience when it comes to swimbaits along with 0 confidence. So I was wondering what is the best way to start I would like to get a decent setup do I have been looking at a shimano tranx 300 but I'm not sure about the rod yet I was looking to throw 20lb fluorocarbon line unless I'm told otherwise on here. So what are y'alls suggestions on beginner baits that will get me bites and a decent rod to get as well. A bait that I do make is a 4inch paddletail swimbait along with a 6inch and the 6inch bait takes a 10/0 owner beast. The picture I have added is my 6inch bait.
  10. hit a NYC largemouth yesterday. rain was pretty bad but I managed to get a bite
  11. So I decided to make my own bait a few weeks ago. This is my first and is pretty rough. I’m going to test the action tomorrow. It swam pretty good in my pool. I just need more space for testing. Any constructive criticism is appreciated. Thanks SU!
  12. Fire near my lake so it’s closed to be used as the hub for the firefighting team. Having swimbait withdrawal. It’s been 5 days since I’ve slung any baits. Waaaaahaaaaa This was 2 days before they closed lake. Was on a solid bite too. Hopefully it’s still cracking when they reopen to public. IMG_1768.MP4
  13. Do any white perch pattern glide baits exist? If not that would be pretty sweet.
  14. I picked up a couple of rago rats on offer up, and both of the lips have been changed and reshaped. I’m new to rat fishing, what shape lip is the best for these rats and should i sand them down to a different shape? Thanks
  15. I’ve thrown baits like deps 250, drt tiny klash/9, I want to step up to the next level... what are some good glides... another question.. I’ve been looking at Hiro glides the 8.5 soft tail and the 11 inch hard tail... what’s the difference.. what do you reccomend.. kayak fishing mostly in shallow pressured ponds/lakes... thank you
  16. Looking to sell these 2 trout themed glide baits i've made from Canadian Maple. They are swimtested and invidually weighted to sink troughly foot per second. The trouts come with needle sharp 2/0 gamakatsu hooks and with epoxy coating thick enough to withstand musky and pike and other toothy critters. Specks are 8.6 inces and weight 7.4oz looking to sell them for $235 a pop, i will pay the shipping.
  17. Want to buy an og Deps 250 in either the flash carp color, Og bass color, or Biwa Masu... please pm me!!! Thanks Swimbait Underground:)
  18. You know those days where you're fishing at night and you think your cast is aimed correctly? Then you hear the loud ringing sound of a metal rail. Then you quickly retie for the next cast, then hear the thud of a concrete wall. Nooooo!!!! It's ok though. I seized this opportunity to try out some things. I always wanted a larger bill on my chartreuse wake, so I made that happen. Now I have a chance to test out some circuit board bills too! I did clean up the epoxy around the base quite a bit. When the epoxy cures, I will be drilling through the wood and circuit board and pinning them in place with 2 steel twist wires for some extra support with a little epoxy in the hole to fill up the gaps.
  19. Hey guys i'ts been quite a long time since i posted anything in here but i figured i'd try to start sharing my projects here again. I have a few swimbaits in the works now but lets start with a triple carp. This one is loosely based on a glider i made a few years ago. It was a big ass chunky bait and even thought pretty, it was a bit on a heavy side so i knew foing into this project i wanted to do something thats a bit more user friendly. So far these are the colors i came up for the pre orders i launched last week. The specks for the triple carp are 8.6" and 6.8oz
  20. Anyone know the rod blanks that the bigger companies are running for their builds. Like down down and moams??
  21. Last month I caught my new PB, here in Portugal, at 6.24lb and 22.2" long. Today I caught my second largest bass ever! 5.64lb and 20" long! And I caught it on one of the wakebaits I make: a Caetano Swimbaits Wake. It's 6.9" long. I'll post some pictures now and maybe tomorrow I'll post the cast to catch video. Just have to edit the video first.
  22. This is a bit of what I'm doing, some other big things to come. I would love to see your work, and collaborate one day.
  23. https://youtu.be/gpRibNt9tA8 Caught in the dark . Kept following but didn’t bite until dark . It could probably see me . Super clear water Cast 2 Catch Striper Balam 300
