  1. I agree with lure junkie about using some sort of shock leader. Short shock leaders of fluoro don't seem to affect action much if at all. PS. Bass touring pros also use suggest using a shock leader for most topwaters. You will have to google that to learn more. I always do cuz of the hook impaling the braid issue discussed in another post above. The shock leader also makes hooksetts better and smoother imo. Gives fish more time to get bait.
  2. Interesting never seen or heard of that. Looking forward to hearing more since I have that problem. I can usually get the braid off without apparent damage but I wonder if I am rationalizing that.
  3. To start you should inquire how he fishes, yak, cartopper, bass boat, saltwater. My buddy swears by his humminbird bobber thingy while I like my fishing buddy for cartopper. If he is a newbie you will want something that whistles or chimes when you go over fish. You have a world of options, going cheaper is not necessarily getting less value depending upon the intended use. Just look at the bass pros. There is no way you need all of that stuff imo to find fish.
  4. Sorry not looking for trades. Need funds for a new outboard. 2013 hbt still available. Never touched water and has stock hooks on it.
  5. Yeah it makes sense to have one in your box of jerkbaits.
  6. Dunno. I was eyewitness to the effectiveness of one during an early spring two fish torney in 43 degree water years ago. My boater lost the biggest sm I have ever seen. He had several other strikes and got another into boat. I thought no way that lure is getting bit. PS. Normally I would blame myself as net man for not netting it right. A fish lost at net is assumed to be fault of netter imo. But he had an arthritis attack on his hands after he hooked it. When that ended, and he was able to reel again, he thought it had snagged him on bottom. When thing realized it was hooked it shot to the surface like a maniac, head shook the stock hooks, and jumped over the net.
  7. If you get hit on the magdraft let me know. I have been using the 6 inch one with not even a sniff.
  8. Your comments remind me of those made by my Hudd fishing mentors. Great info. PS. My struggle is I can't go slow enough to become a top tier Hudd stick. When folks have said slow they mean slow like fishing a jerkbait with a 10 second pause slow. Not easy. PS.1. To help with that, I use old deep spool green curados with 5 0 1 retrieves. And still those reels are so slow they make me uncomfortable, because I feel like I am not retrieving anything.
  9. Never understood the bait nor does Ken Huddleston if you watch his vids describing it. It throws the naturally swimming vortex tail principle out of the window. It is basically a super thumping swimbait that should be used accordingly as a fast retrieve triggering bait. Don't slow it down and pretend it is like an ordinary Hudd. Finger the casts if bait is balling up, so tail turns over. Fish one side by side with a normal Hudd to get a sense of their differences. PS. It took me over a decade to get my first hit on a normal Hudd. Not kidding. I then fished with a couple peeps who loved them, and then committed a rig to them.
  10. That's what the fall is about, patience knowing a decent fish wants to bulk up.
  11. Black pending five of diamonds still available.
  12. Sorry 2011 red dot gone already. 2013 still available.
  13. $100 each ff or you pay fees. These are poly wood models with orange eyes, the ogs and the best that were ever made by Hi Fin. You can literally listen to its unique boop and bopp sound when fishing it. Hold rod tip high to create a slack line ubend in braid to get them swimming helplessly. PS. Floyd of Hi Fin died a while ago rip, but he made me a batch of customs one of which is his impression of a five of diamonds spoon being offered above. Obviously the black is not a custom. PS. 1 Each bait will arrive ready to fish with barbed down and sharpened bronze hooks (touched up by me) - the only way to roll imo. Tie direct on mh and up braid rig. They throw lighter than their 2 oz weight.
  14. $105 tyd ff or you pay fees per bait. I had Mike paint up a couple of custom slammers years back in holdover stocker patterns.
  15. For some reason a jointed bomber will bring up giant sm in super cold water. Seen it myself. I bought a tk here hoping it does the same.
  16. Never touched water. Pats perch. On the phatter side but not as phat phat as others I have seen in person. First $375 takes it. F&F or pay fees please. Need a new outboard.
  17. Only way to roll my bro! I will us the Shaggy song defense and say "It wasn't me." Hehe. PS. Baby wake reeled and twitched like a traditional rapala minnow accounts for my biggest 5 fish bag ever. And it was on my local pond too with super selective fish. My story is in the archive here searchable I am sure. PS1. Another tip is to avoid the marketing gimmick of walking the dog with it. I have never caught a fish doing that. The dog walk was promoted in vid as its special feature.
  18. Luv the hook rash on that bait.
