  1. You too and to all the other SU members have a great and safe thanksgiving!
  2. Post this in the Grass Roots forum,
  3. My weirdest encounter was when I was striper fishing on the north shore. Being only 15 it was pretty scary. My parents left me to fish while they went to go get food. Half hour in, this guy on a bike comes up to me, and asks me how it's going, what u fishing for and other crap. However, he asked me if I smoked which was a warning call to reel up and leave. I just stared walking down the road while talking to him to get to a more populated place. Then he said bye and left. Really got the adrenaline pumping though.
  4. So I went fishing for a half hour at a local pond and I see in a small bay skim ice ! About 1/4 inch thick. What baits work during this period of transition from fall to winter. I live in Mass and was kinda shocked to see ice so early. I threw a hard rat of my own make along with a bass colored jointed wood bait of my own make. Saw some wakes on the surface but no fish. What baits should I throw? Keep in mind that I am fishing from shore.
  5. That is truly amazing. Definitly frame it!
  6. Awesome hope you slay them with that bait.
  7. If you look on the side frame on the reels then it says made in Sweden but I think other reels don't say that.
  8. I find it funny how we bring up Calcutta TE, Lexas, plutons, but yet abus are left in the dust. I'm sure this is frowned upon by some people, but I don't use a level wind. I have a Abu 6500 c3 ct mag that I picked up in Ireland a couple years ago. I saw the reel in a shop, thought British tournament casters, and bought it. I use that reel for stripers and lmb and now I'm throwing swimbaits on it. I no doubt feel that the Calcutta is the best reel for swimbaits, however I get along fine with my Abu. I like a non levelwind reel because I have control over the spool and no worm gear to worry about. I love that reel to my death and I would recommend any Swedish made Abu to anyone. Just my two cents.
  9. Thanks guys for the info. I am still looking into rods but in the meantime I'm working on a rat bait. I will keep you guys posted on my success with it.
  10. I have been doing some research and I am seeing more and more Super glue (CA glue) sealing. I have a lot of zap a gap from fly tying so that is not an issue. What are the pros or cons of Ca glue sealing and how do I go about sealing with it?
  11. Thanks I think I will just dip the parts and drill afterwards
  12. Hi guys, I'm making a nezumma-Woodrow rat hybrid that I am in the process of. I'm hand carving it with a hand planer and knife. So for it is looking pretty decent but I have a question... Do I attach the bill and hook hangers before sealing (masking off) or after with some redrilling. I am new to bait making as this is my first one. I have a Woodrow style joint so I don't think I could assemble the bait and then seal it. However, I feel the lip could pose a problem...... I am using red oak for the wood and I am going to seal it in a boat varnish. I am not going to paint the bait because I believe the grain and red color of the wood is enough. Thanks for your time and I will keep you informed. God bless
