  1. That's what I'm planning on, now that TW raised the normal 6" price to $25 as well, I don't know why anyone would bother not just buying the 68.
  2. I had an awesome day today if size isn't factored into the equation. All of the big fish were on beds and wouldn't eat a thing, but the little guys had finished spawning and were hungry! I landed somewhere between 20 and 30 of them. This was my first time actually catching numbers of fish on swimbaits, and I know it's only 4&1/4" long and doesn't even come close to being a big bait, but that huddleston tail really impressed me, it doesn't look like it's doing much, but the fish say otherwise. Seeing a 10" fish nearly swallow the bait before I have time to set the hook makes me want to buy a couple of baits in the 6-8" range, I don't have anything to throw larger ones with.
  3. I'm impressed that you have found some clear water to fish!
  4. How do you get the tags? I was wanting to try this, because we have always had to snip off the tip of a spine on the dorsal fin, but then you can't tell them apart
  5. looks like that fish wasn't put on ice...
  6. This fish ate a bluegill that my little brother was reeling in. Somehow the #8 hook found its way out of the bluegill and into the bass's mouth. Not bad for 4lb test.
  7. My friend and I laughed for a solid 5 minutes when I caught that bluegill, because we were in an area where we had seen a big one earlier, and when I felt a thump (yes it actually thumped it), I said "FISH!" but soon after I swung I realized what had happened. We saw plenty of big fish (4-8lbs), but they seemed to still be inactive. The fish under 14" were on fire, but I caught them using something I'm not allowed to talk about on here haha
  8. The fish in a pond that I fish are currently being very difficult. They are sunning themselves and are terribly afraid of anything that moves. I spooked a 2 pound largemouth with a #16 nymph on my fly rod... A rough transition coming back to VA finding this, I was just in myrtle beach where some fish had already finished spawning, and the bite was ON
  9. When a bait has a really strong plastic smell, I like to use the scent to try to mask it. Again, it's mainly a confidence thing, but confidence for me is the most important factor in my fishing.
  10. Or you can use "frogs hair" 6oz fluorocarbon leader...That's just for clear water applications
  11. I have some rainbows and brooks that I stocked in a pond near my house...All I know it that if you throw a weedless hudd shad, they jackhammer it on every cast. Haven't had one choke it yet to where I could hook it, that would make an awesome picture!
  12. I have to stick with the single hook because it is a special regulation body of water. Also, the water is still around 40 degrees, should I still fish fast? I am expecting to get some strange looks from the orvis-clad fly fishermen, but that's okay, I have done much crazier things for fish
  13. This winter, I was fishing a river with a friend from a 'yak. Something had the bass completely shut off, and we didn't catch anything fishing for 5 hours, but I did manage to catch and kill a hen mallard (it was youth duck day, and my little brothers were hunting downriver and shot her, but she flew all the way up to us, landed, and couldn't fly any more) I didn't want the bird to suffer, so I snagged her, reeled her in, and broke her neck (she's in the freezer right now). Shortly after that, a rabbit that had no apparent injuries comes floating down the river stone dead, it had nothing to do with my brothers haha. Lots of other kind of weird things have happened, but those two events in one trip surprised me
  14. I have spring break next week, and will be spending a couple days at my grandparent's house, which is a short drive away from my favorite trout stream. Normally we just fish small stuff like trout magnets, salmon eggs, minnows, etc. But this winter I discovered some baby rainbows up to 7" in the bellies of browns that were only 15" long! (and this stream has fish over 20") So now I have a 5" decoy swimbait in a rainbow trout pattern and I am hoping to stick a few browns with it. Does anyone here have experience throwing swimbaits for trout? If so, let me know anything you think is important. Thanks
  15. I catch most of my pond bass on shallow flats this time of year, and since ponds warm up so much faster, it is common to catch them really shallow even in early pre spawn, especially in stained/muddy water. I caught one 24" long last week in 3 FOW here in central VA
