The spring run is in full swing and we have been crushing the stripers. This is the first wave of fish, so it's been mostly small males in the 3-5lb range. But, there have been some better grade in the 10-20lb range mixed in. The glidebait has been doing most of the damage. But, the big topwaters are working in low light and cloudy days.
Here's a couple from the last few days. A schemedium on the Megadawg. And a better fish on the 250. With the full moon coming this weekend, we're expecting the big girls to show up any day.

I think the one question that hasn't been asked is "What rod are you using"? You can have all the right terminal tackle and line, but if the rod is too stiff then you start pulling hooks and loosing fish. I've had plenty of tackle failure in the past. Opened split rings, straightened hooks and broken leaders. But, I can tell you most could of been avoided by not fishing such a tight drag or stiff rod.
I'm pretty sure we are fishing similar water and the same fish. Of all the big stripers I've hooked in the Delta, only a handful were actually lost in hard cover. Most of the big fish run to deep water and sulk, until you tire em out and get em to the boat.
That being said, I never have my drags locked down and I fish MH-H 8ft rods, with a moderate action. The little bit of bend in the rod will absorb headshakes and direction changes. My normal setup for mid sized glides is a Phenix M1 Inshore 80MH, Daiwa Costal 200, 65lb braid and 3ft 30lb mono leader. Been fishing the same setup for almost 10yrs now.
Swiveling hook hangers on baits are also awesome and I prefer those builders. BGC Striper glide, Megabass MegaDawg and DWB.

One of the best fishing upgrades ever!
It defintelty played a key role in landing my PB fish. I was fishing offshore island tops during a nasty storm. I positioned the boat up wind and hit the spot lock. Once the boat settled in, I went to the stern of the boat and made along cast out the back and over the island. Long story short I got bit by a 9.75 on the mag and landed it solo. All this happened in 20mph winds and 2-3ft rollers. No way I could of kept the boat positioned correctly without the spotlock.
I also love the cruise control feature. Set the heading and speed and let her go. I'll retie, eat a snack or lay down for a few mins between spots.

Was chasing stripers again on the CA Delta. Fishing off the bank in a deadend slough. Wind was howling and the light was getting low. I could tell something big was about to happen.
To my surprise this thicc girl hammered the BGC near the bank! She went 6.2 on the scale and made my night!
I've been lucky enough to get two of Kevin's Gen3 glides a little early and man do they get bit! Very balanced and and smooth glide. These are XSS so they ride high in the water and are perfect for fishing the grassy waters of the Delta. I can't wait to put these in front of a big striper this spring.

Got into a few smedium sized stripers last week. The hatcheries are releasing steelhead and salmon smolts and the stripers are gorging on them. We found a small school of fish blowing up the smolts along a tule berm and they were bitey! We landed 8 striper up to 12lbs in short order. Nothing huge, but nice to pull on something.

Tuna or YT on the Balam or glide is a goal for this year!

Solid striper! All my spots on the Delta been blown out for a few weeks. Hope to try out west again pretty soon.

It is made for the salt. The thing looks killer in the water.
Thats rad. I'm gonna have to get Ceasar to build me one. That would get murdered at Cedros MX! We did really well with the Balam and TT there this summer.

Nice One! Is that a standard sink rate bait or did you have Ceasar build it for salt?

The CA Delta continues to kick out good fish. We changed it up and took the kayaks out at night this weekend. I been throwing a prototype BGC Shad Glide that's "striper tuned" and it's been killing it for me. I landed a few in the 11-16lb range and a big one at 45" 34-36lbs.
My partner stuck with his OG 250 in Chartruese and landed his new PB, close to 30lbs.

The fall striper run on the CA Delta is picking up. We've had decent results throwing 8-10" glides and mag topwaters for fish up to 16lbs. The low light has been key to get the bigger fish to bite.
Our last trip I scored a nice fish on a Megabass Megadawg. And my partner got a 16lber on a OG chartruese 250.

Bump.

That's bad ass!
20lbers are few and far between in CA. Some consider a 20lb a fish of a lifetime. And, to score or topwater is always a bonus!
