  1. Its actually heavy duty cloth used in carwash machines... flexible and very durable
  2. The body is a certain type of hand carved wood and the clear is a 2 part epoxy from lureparts.com, just shot it through my airbrush.. I was very surprised how well it sprayed at first, super smooth. Much better than all the rotisserie business i hear about all the time with other products like Devcon. Give it a try, best method ive found..
  3. https://instagram.com/p/27bnRkDOJA/ Heres a swim vid..
  4. For me personally I wanted to mimic the bait fish we have here in Texas. Everybody and their brother makes swimbaits that have a trout like profile and although I know bass still eat them around here I still have a lot more confidence in something that is native to my region.. and we all know how that wide gliding action triggers a big bite like no other!
  5. Just finished this shad glide.. Happy with the end result and wanted to share with you guys-

    Hardware

Al321 hit it on the head... i use stainless TIG welding rod also, works great and comes in several different diameters
  7. For me laquer seems to be the toughest as far as spray can products... if you want to do it right buy a 2 part epoxy and spray it through an airbrush, they sell the epoxy on various lure building sites
  8. Thanks guys... to answer a few of your questions, yes it swims good but in retrospect ill be using different fin material on any future gliders. It's a heavy duty cloth and if it flexes it can affect the glide. Swam much better and wider with no fins at all, but the guy i built it for liked the look so i left em. Material is pine as with most of my other baits, has then density i like but soft enough that it carves good. Its been catching a lot of fish for him, mostly sight fishing and even 2 or 3 pounders crush it... just a matter of time until a giant grabs it-
  9. First Bluegill carving came out decent.. still havent got an airbrush yet, but i did finally order one... had to use the old trusty Krylon cans haha 6" 3oz Glider Real Gill pattern Owner hooks
  10. Dont laugh, but i actually just used an old yellow pine 2x4 i had laying around the shop.. carved decent and only required about an ounce of weight to sink at 1 foot per second
  11. Went out yesterday after work to swim the shad a little bit before dark, 5th cast and this 8 pounder had to sample the goods! After a long and slow but steady retrieve i gave it a couple reel throbs and paused it.. thats when the bait did the old 180 and she crushed it! Was super excited, ive only caught 3 fish on this bait so far but they were all toads.. a 7 a 5 and now this 8, big girls are just starting to move up so it should only get better..

    joints?

Screw eyes in the head piece, notches cut in the tail piece and pin from the top down through both screw eyes..
  13. Quite honestly the baits ive made have all been from an old yellow pine 2x4 lol... it works great and swims awesome, just try to find a piece that doesnt have a ton of knots and hard rosin veins running through it. I know Roman Made make their baits from Japanese Cypress and ive heard of a bunch of people makin em outta Basswood which is available at Michaels or Hobby Lobby, hope this helps
  14. One other thing, ive had baits do this when the hinge has a slight catch to it... be sure it is swinging freely and does not bind up from one side to the other, that hinge should be smooth as butter
  15. Thank you much, i might have to give it a try on my next build... hope its not too tricky to get the paint to stick haha
