  1. Didn’t fish the big baits as much this year but was still able to pull out a couple nice fish! Fish range from 5lb-7lbs 9oz.

My best 5 went 31.5lbs (swimmers), but surprisingly only one of these fish added to my best 5 overall from the year (conventional and swimmers).

Cheers from North of the border

  2. Hey SU

Looking to trade this Ryoga 1520 for a different reel. Reel is absolutely incredible and a gem to fish. Only reason I am even thinking about letting it go is because it just wasn’t big enough for what I wanted as I wanted a reel with enough line capacity to float fish big rivers in Canada for steelhead, it fits 100 yards of 20lb line and is an awesome swimbait reel, just looking for something a bit bigger. Reel is in 8.5/10 Cosmetically, but 10/10 mechanically.

I am looking for these reels (right hand):

    -Calcutta conquest 300/400 (2015 or 2018)

    -Daiwa Ryoga 2020

    -Daiwa Z2020

    -Shimano Antares MD right handed

Mainly looking for reels but I could also be interested in custom rods if it’s one that fills a need, either a 2-7oz rod or a XXH so if you have one also shoot a me a PM

If you want any more pictures shoot me a DM as well

  3. Went on my annual trip to Europe this year and as usual I was looking forward to fish for these large catfish again. Last year I only managed to catch two fish, one about 1 meter long and the other 1.95 meters long. Both still very far away from the trophy length and size of 250cm. At the start of my trip this year I jokingly said that my goal was to catch a catfish measuring in excess of 250cm. Even most of the local fisherman don’t have a catfish personal best exceeding 250cm.

For the first part of my trip I was limited to only fishing this small body of water with very few catfish in it. Although I got up in the early hours multiple days I was unfortunate and ended up getting zero hits and only spooked one away from the bank.

Luckily in the next week me and my local friend were a level to hit one of the bigger river systems and had a pretty good day, me and 3 other friends ended up catching 16 in one day, the biggest ones were just shy of 2 meters.

In the second week of the trip my family had rented a house a few hours away right beside one of the best rivers in France. So of course I was going to go to the river every chance I got. This ended up being some of the best fishing of my life. The first morning I got up at 3am and drove about 40 minutes to the spot, it’s a deep pool with lots of current I chose to use a big 10” paddle tail swimbait with a 40gram jighead due to the fact it was still dark out and wanted something with a lot of thump. I ended up catching a catfish 2 meters long within 5 casts. After releasing that fish I caught another catfish this one turned out to be 2m05cm. Still a long way from the length I wanted but I was beyond stoked with those two fish that morning.

The next morning i wake up at 3am again, this time i caught a lot more fish at the spot but they were all small. I decided i would make my last cast and than go home as the bite was dying, with the last 10 feet of line out i get thumped hard. I swing and set the hook and this fish rips out into the middle of the fast current. I fight the fish to shore and get a hold of it. I bring it to the bank for pictures and measure it. 2m10cm, getting bigger, i let the fish go and head home.

The next day i decide to sleep in to go do some sight seeing with the family. I end u p deciding to go out that evening. I get to the spot around 8pm and fish for a few hours with only one bite, i was thinking that maybe i had hit the spot too hard the past few days and i should let it rest so i can come back tomorrow morning for my last day there. I make one last cast and yet again with 10 feet of line out i get the biggest hit i have ever gotten on a lure. I set the hook and this fish rips 75-80 yards of line out on a basically almost locked down Calcutta 400TE. Now i knew this one was giant, i fought the fish for about 45 minutes and i finally lay eyes on this fish. It is massive and easily the biggest freshwater fish i have caught on a lure. I bring it to shore and take the best pictures i can as it is almost pitch black out and i am by myself. I go looking through my bag for my tape measure and realize i left it at home that day after re organizing. So I cut a piece of fishing line and measure the fish with it than cut it and save that for when  i get home. Once i get home i measure the line, the tape measure reads 2m56cm! I was blown away and overjoyed. Since watching river monsters as a kid i had always been captivated by wels catfish and their fearlessness of basically anything.

I still have 2 more days of fishing left on this trip and will add pictures in the comments below if i get anything else noteworthy.

Killer report. Go back and drag bottom w heavy line and an Arig. You might be able to get that combo back.

Problem is, we lost it while netting that big one, jon boat was tippy and i actually ended up falling in the water and dragging that rod overboard i guess. I didnt even realise it was gone until after i released that fish thus i dont have a very good idea on when it went over

  5. Went out to the lake today, did a whole dawn till dusk day. Day started off with a 5lber on a jig and than the rest of the day was windy as a big front was rolling through in the evening. Caught a bunch of smaller males on the jig throughout the day. Around 6pm the clouds covered the sun and the wind picked up and I knew this was the time to throw the big baits. Went to the north end of the lake and within a few minutes I had my first one on, she ate the large size weedless rising son. After letting her go I miss another fish on that bait and I get to the end of the good stretch, so I turn back around and start going back through with a 250, within a few casts I land another one in the 7lb class, took photos and she swam away. Now this day would’ve been amazing if I didn’t fall over and loose my G.Loomis IMX and Conquest combo, but, money can’t replace memories like this... back to back 7lb Canadian largemouth.

  6. Managed to get out for two days in a row before a front rolled through in WA state, had two pretty good days. Biggest one was a 23.5" fish that i didnt get a weight on because the scale got wet, luckily got a weight on a 21" fish. She was 6lbs even and a 5lb 8oz fish from the day before

    First pic: 23.5"

    Second pic: 21", 6lbs 0oz

    Third pic: 20.5", 5lbs 8oz

  8. Hey SU, recently bought a car so i need to unload one of my reels. I take great care of all my equipment, this reel is 10/10 mechanically and as smooth as the day i bought it, 8/10 cosmetic because of use. I have 2 of these reels and this is the one in better condition so it's the one I'm choosing to let go, has box and everything in it. PM me with questions, asking 425$ shipped TYD.

    Thanks SU!
