I used to use the Double Palomer for everything from senkos to frogs to the big baits. I switched to the San Diego Jam for everything but braid. Best know in my book for everything but braid once you learn how to tie it well. The SD Jam has proven itself to me to the extent I even use it for fly fishing.

So far I haven't had any commit to it yet. The followers have been huge though. Had a 40+ inch Northern Pike side swipe it a couple weeks back

What do you suggest as a replacement? I don't have the equipment to melt pure tungsten. Lead is out too as it is illegal for everywhere I fish

What is the factory mass of the belly weight? 3. What is your personal preferred mass you use? I can't seem to find the posts in the Underground. Thought I'd turn to the bait makers. I just got my first 250. I'm getting decent distance with a side lob cast and better accuracy with an overhead cast (similar technique to casting surface irons). The bait helicopters on both casts for me. Wondering what other techniques there are to limit helicopter and combine power and accuracy?

I'm looking to repaint my Mini Slammer and possibly a few other baits. I have never done this before. Looking for some info on it as well as some tips and tricks you guys use. Thanks!

I'm new to Plattsburgh NY and have been chucking baits from shore for 3 weeks with minimal results. Currently without a boat but the Yak is coming up in a few weeks. Nailed a 5 pound Smallie at the mouth of the Saranac on a Slammer but other than that not even a follower. I'm looking for advice on the lake and baits that work here. Large mouth are more my wheel house but I'm looking to catch both.

I believe the 2/3's rule was established using data based on Northern Pike. Then it trickled down to bass fishing. I find it truly applies to growing bass in the up until around 4 pounds. Once they hit 5 and up it turns to the opportunity of a big meal vs. abundance of the forge. Here in NH, 4-6 inch perch and bluegill are in abundance. Those bigger bait fish are hard to come-by. I like to throw baits that are 2 inches larger than the abundant size of the forge. I max out at 10 inch baits now but wouldn't be opposed to throwing larger.

FG knot or the modified Albright knot

I have the 8 foot heavy model. It says it is rated 4-8oz but I have thrown baits as small as 2oz to as big as 10 oz. for me the sweet spot is right around 3-7oz baits. It has some serious backbone, yet still sensitive. The rod has performed great with subsurface baits like Hudds and soft body paddle tails. The hookset with surface baits like the Slammer take time to figure out but the rod will perform. I don't fish many glides (my good ones were lost to toothier critters) but a buddy of mine fishes them exclusively on this rod. I've thrown all the baits you have mentioned on this rod with ease. I have a tight budget as well so my rod is paired with an Abu Garcia Ambassador S. Not a real fan of the reel due to it being a push knob instead of a thumb bar for casting. I'll be upgrading to the Ambassador SX or STX shortly. Hope this helps
