My thinking is pretty clear. Larger lakes and higher pressured areas are for swimbaits only. If I am fishing a pond where I know for a fact the fish are stacked, I typically throw conventional gear. I'm just trying to catch a big bass regardless. If throwing conventional has the same odds as catching a big bass as a swimbait, I'll throw conventional because catching fish of any size is fun to me.

Model: GRSM70XHT Overall the rod is a good one. A very budget minded rod for sure. Fairly sensitive. The handle is a bit shorter than I would have liked, but for $50, I don't have much room to complain. The reel seat is a fuzz loose, so my Shimano Cardiff 400 has slight play forward and backwards. The eyelets are very secure on this rod. Stiff backbone. There is NOT really a 'tip' section of the rod. Glide baits are harder to work with this particular rod. The main bait I have thrown on this rod would be the 10 inch Megabass Magdraft and 8 inch Spro BBZ. The rod throws both of these baits extremely well, and the rod never feels like it is going to break on you. I do wish I had gone with the longer model, so consider upping the length. Being a freediver, its no problem for me to get my hung baits. All I do is leave the line intact, strip down to boxers, and take a swim. I follow the line down and unhang the bait. I swam for a hudd in roughly 35 feet deep water before. I had nothing better to do and the bite wasn't good, so I took a deep swim.

Bait wraps are the way to go

In a recent fishing trip I threw the mattlures hammertail shad and the huddleston 68 rof 12. With the hudd, I noticed multiple times that when I reeled in the bait, the tail was caught on the hook. This happened about 3 or so times. There were also some teeth marks on the tail and very few on the body of the bait. The same thing happened with the hammer tail except the eyes on the bait had been scratched from what I can only assume was a bass, and there is scarring on the body of the bait. Many times I reeleed in these folded baits and felt no tick of the line. I was throwing 20lb mono on a Daiwa DX SB medium heavy swimbait rod. Felt nothing on the line at all. Am I doing something wrong? What do you think happened? Thank you, BamaChild

I'm getting a Shimano Cardiff as a new reel. I plan on throwing baits over 4 oz. with this new reel. Does anyone have any opinions on whether 300 or 400 size would work better? Thank you!

I was in choppy water with 5-7 mph wind

Glide baits were all the rage. ISlides (7 inch) were the ticket. Cant work them slow though. Didn't grab their attention enough. A mattlures Ultimate Shad got bit once, but it was just a love tap, nothing rod stealing. 68 hudd couldn't even draw a glance from any bass in the area. They couldn't care less. 8 inch savage gear line through got a few lookers but none were brave enough to take it out.

Went out today and threw a Megabass ISlide the medium one. Now I had ton of followers and got some to commit. The problem came when the bass would peck the bait between the hooks for a split second then back off. Too fast for me to set the hook into the side of their mouths. I also dealt with bass just rolling on the bait. They would charge the bait then last second almost try and tail slap it is what it looked like from my POV. Im not sure what to do about that. Could the magnetic hook holders have caused me to miss strikes? Another problem is when I fast twitch the bait to really get it going like a jerkbait, the bait rolls over and does a barrel roll. To get the follows I had to work it hard and then the rolls killed the action. Is there anything I can do about that? Thank you! EDIT: All the followers and the bass who rolled were for sure big enough to engulf the glide bait. I think the roller was pushing 8.

Swimbaiting is a patience game. Not trying to scare ya, but it took me 2 months to get my first swimbait fish. Granted that wasn't me being on the true grind, but still. Other than that, I agree with Born 2 Fish

Being that once I began to swimbait heavily, I joined this forum and no others, I tend to think of SU as the main forum. So just keep that in mind. I think we can all agree that SU is an amazing forum. There are very few jerks and scammers in the Black Market. Everyone here is just so close knit and is willing to help no matter what. It wouldn't surprise me to see people trading secret spots on this forum. To be able to see things like this reaffirms so much for me. The kindness we all show to each other. I've seen guys give hundreds of dollars of baits to people who had been stolen from or lost lures in some form or fashion that didn't involve fishing. We all respect the grind and each other in the process, we all know the struggle and the ultimate triumph in the end. It never fails to amaze me. The amount of knowledge that gets shared on a daily basis, all for free. Nobody here ever expects anything in return (unless they're selling on the Black Market). Me alone I have had many many kind people influence me and help me on my start into the game. That is all so selfless. Sudden stop? Like casting or hitting the water?

I know that there are advertised swimbait/bigbait feels out there, and they work. I was wondering what makes them different from a normal baitcaster like a lowprofile. Is it the gears, drag, components, line capacity, being a round reel or not. For ex: Tranx vs. normal low profile, what’s the difference? I was also wondering about is anyone had tried KastKing rovers for swimbaits, I may give it a shot. Thank you!

Those pictures lead me to believe that lead isnt the problem. It almost looks like a different bait bled onto them and caused the discoloration. I have seen instances of glitter reacting with certain things leading to the glitter dye to leak into the bait.

-Does anyone else have a body of water where you just can’t get a swimbait bite no matter how hard you grind? If so, how do you combat this? -Do you have a favorite swimbait for when times get tough (any time during the year) that you pick up and know you will catch fish? -I have a reel that doesn’t properly fit into my rod, should I just add tape to fill it in? -How often do you catch swimbait fish?
