I am new to fishing swimbaits. (started about a year ago) I am curious to have imput and see what yall have to say about some questions i have. First comes rod which i decided on my own which is the G lommis 966c IMX pro. Next is reel which i havent decided on. I am looking at the shimano tranx 300A and the Daiwa tatula 300 and im not sure which is better. I want strong, proven, reliablity, and finally casting distance. The next question then becomes Gear ratio which i know is all according to spool size and otherthings so i am really looking at the inches per turn (ipt). Its either the Tranx 300 5.8(30ipt) Tranx 300 7.6(39ipt) or the Daiwa tatula 300 5.3(28.1ipt) tatula 300 6.3(33.5ipt) or the tatula 300 7.1(37.6ipt)? Finally comes Line brand, line type, and line size. I am all ears and want feedback on everything. The baits i will be throwing will be in the 6.5 inch to the biggest for now being a deps 250 slide swimmer.

So I’m buying a 908 to throw a Deadtwitch, 10” hudds, and big glides like the mother. I’ve been reading forums for like a week trying to decide if I could get away with one of my lexa or Tatula 300s spooled with 25lb mono would that work for this setup? Or should I try to get a lexa 400 and run 30lb?

Hey Gang, been a bit since I posted anything so I hope this doesn’t fall on deaf ears. Over the fall semester I got hit by a car on my skateboard and broke my wrist. Was too busy getting boned by BU that I never had time to see why the hell it hurt so much(yeah I’m dumb). You try getting an X-ray while studying for weekly BIO-Chem tests. Hurts like hell but now I have to get surgery on it, so to cheer myself up I’ve decided to delve into the market for a new DC reel. Why DC?… because I like the sounds and have the casting ability of your one friend that borrows your baitcaster for one second only to get a birds nest the size of a Peyton mannings forehead. Anyway if I’m to spend a fortune on a reel I’d like it to be a good one. I plan on using it for both the salt and freshwater although mostly freshwater. Folks got a place up in Maine on the water so I’d like to try my luck at stripers or just mackerel. I’ve been looking at the Excense 17 a bit. Looks purrrdy but again would love to know if anyone has had any first hand experience. Also it has clicking drag which I like because reel go zzzzzzz. Anyway this post is a bit all over the place kinda just want to stop focusing on the fact I’m gonna have a nail in my wrist. Hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to hearing back. -Ben

Hello SU. I just got into swimbait fishing this past year and I've been throwing the S-Waver 168, 6'' Magdraft, and Sneaky Pete 5.75'' on my 7'2 Med Hvy SLX casting rod paired with an SLX DC with 17lb fluoro. I know that this rod isn't meant to throw baits this big and I plan to throw slightly larger baits in the 2oz - 3oz weight. I have decided to go with the Dobyns Fury 795 SB rod since I don't plan on throwing anything heavier than 3oz. I'm just not sure about what reel to pair with it and what lb line to spool it with. If you guys have any recommendations for a reel under $200 and line to spool it with that would be awesome!

Shimano Cardiff 401a (lefty retrieve) I haven’t even had it for a full two months. It has been put on a swimbait rod but not caught any fish. Has a couple minor cosmetic scratches but besides that is brand new! Just got into swimbaiting so the reel has not seen much use unfortunately! Selling for $100 TYD

I know that there are advertised swimbait/bigbait feels out there, and they work. I was wondering what makes them different from a normal baitcaster like a lowprofile. Is it the gears, drag, components, line capacity, being a round reel or not. For ex: Tranx vs. normal low profile, what’s the difference? I was also wondering about is anyone had tried KastKing rovers for swimbaits, I may give it a shot. Thank you!

Hello SU, Reel is in great shape, reels smooth, casts a mile and needs a new home. I have some over stock of round reels and so I figured I should off one. Looking to get 95 for the reel or trade for the right bait or baits, depending on lures price. Trades: Bucca 4x4, abt suicide glide or homicide, deps, jr wake, and I'm open to offers. I can add cash I need be. Thank you for your interest Glidepride
