  1. I like re-purposing stuff so I use scrap wood from broken fence boards from my back yard, pallet wood, fallen tree limbs, tool handles and scrap pine 2x4's. They have all worked well- denser woods work well for swim baits, plus they're free. If I screw it up it doesn't matter, but so far all of them have surpassed my expectations. Tuning is the hard part but also really satisfying to do. I don't make a lot of baits but spend time fixing what I make. I think I learn more that way. I'm not into making baits to sell or mass producing - I don't sell my lures because they're a part of me. Don't give up on a 'failed lure' - my favorite is a bluegill I made that didn't work at first and I set it aside. Later on I kept tinkering with it and it is my favorite.
  2. outstanding, great idea - wish you still had the pics to help us build ours!
  3. yes I agree sounds good - why not just tie them with 100lb test kevlar? just speculating...
  4. love the design, do they glide well?
  5. Like the others have said I don't think you'll have a problem with Pickerel cutting your line - I've caught some fairly big ones and their teeth don't seem that formidable unless you are fishing less than 20lb test; I fish with 100lb mono leader because musky are a possibility, but I've caught bass using it, I don't think it scares them in the murky waters I fish.
  6. roman made's you tube site has a video about tying them - and I've seen them on the Mother's there - other than it not binding like a split ring, what are the other advantages?
  7. Awesome Jackson! I like the rattlecan no eye look myself - kind of vintage - retro style ; plus I'm too cheap to get an air system. With baits and success like that, you don't need store bought!

    test

I know it sounds crazy but I've learned so much making and experimenting with my own lures to get them to do what I want - stuff I'd never attempt with an expensive store bought lure - getting them to swim right, and casting into places I'd be afraid of with expensive stuff- not to mention the musky risk. Also I spend more time on the water with a lure I've made just watching it swim...
  9. that would be King Mackerel Candy off a gulf coast pier! beautiful bait !
  10. beautiful fish and nice mod on the 230
  11. are you interested in any trades - swimbaits? thanks

    test

Yes! I caught it in Lake Storey here in Galesburg, Illinois, it's our public city lake - you can see the swimming ropes in the background but no one was swimming at the time... he was only around two pounds or so, but made my day.
