  1. looks great Josh - and I really like the acetone mod on the nude black... nice work!
  2. Kind of depends on what you want out of a bait... do you prefer wood or resin? What kind of action do you prefer? I would spend time on YouTube especially on Crazy Bass Fisher's videos where he shows the pool tests on the Mother and Hinkle.
  3. I hope they expand that crappie color to the smaller baits, need that in all three sizes...!
  4. I did a search and couldn't find any topics on this - I had a negotiator that had what I thought was a homemade replacement since I bought it used; but since then I've seen others for sale that had the exact shape and cuts where the tails veins were. Did the original neg's have a tail different than the molded one's made now?
  5. My most destroyed bait is a Deps Killer Compass; unfortunately the musky that destroyed it still has it...so no pics.
  6. FS Lot - punker, TT, Deps, More By Gilgamesh, Yesterday at 01:23 AM in Black Market actually it is a jointed bait near the tail.
  7. ABT makes a unique hardbait - there's one in the black market - it looks like a hudd, not a jointed bait, has a vortex looking tail; not too expensive I think he wants 30$ ? TW has them on sale for around 40$ - it has a top hook too. I am experimenting with a Deps 175 shuddertail by taking off the hooks and rigging a top hook; still afraid to lose it, LOL!
  8. I'm loving this, Mike has a great channel

    Workshop

workshop? man I've lived in places worse than that! needs a refrigerator and a crapper but looks great!
  10. well as far as tuning goes, its more just hearing/seeing what others say even about tuning 250's. I plan to work on an OG so I can let you know more later. Just about everything I've learned has been searching here or YouTube. Now it will become trial and error...!
  11. Hey 168 Rookie, I live in Galesburg, Illinois a few hours west of Chicago. I got back into swimbaiting when I moved here from the Gulf Coast a couple of years ago. I was fortunate that I could adapt a lot of my salt water gear to swim baiting, also I sold and am still selling the gear I don't use on eBay and using those proceeds to add to my addiction. I am also a shore only fisherman - but don't be discouraged by this - a LOT of the Japanese are shore bound and they are big into swimbaiting. I like to use a 'milk run' hit a spot on the local lakes going to work or coming home from work, maybe a few casts a day. This keeps me motivated without getting burned out. I get a lot of follows but no strikes (unless you count muskies). Illinois has a surprising amount of great water, stripers and a lot of lakes that release trout. But if I lived in Chicago I would hit the piers - and I've heard you have an abundance of very clear water where you are - I especially love clear water with swimbaits. In your budget range the only lure I would add would be the Savage Gear 7" Shine glide in a hitch color, it's around 20$ depending on where you shop.
  12. Hey BOZ, I just received the Deps 250 eyes, they look great THANKS! now my lures won't be blind anymore...

      BOZ

      No problem man!

  14. Thanks for the feedback - my plans are to get a 50 so I can use it to throw Deps 250's...
  15. just did a search on Gan Craft 178 and came across a good conversation on the OG 175... type in Gan Craft 178 Deps 175 to see it. couple of good thoughts in there were that using lighter line helps the smaller glides - I use PP so this might only be relevant with flurocarbon. Also is your OG brand new? Mine has a lot of use, so I'm looking into adjusting it; I've heard the OG's can be adjusted but I haven't ventered into those waters yet. I also test swim mine without hooks and see if changing to smaller hooks works - it made a big difference on my new 175.
  16. I appreciate the topic! It would be good to see some of these more popular topics pinned somewhere or maybe even forum subsections dedicated to specific baits. Sometimes searches do pretty well, but sometimes too broad or you can't find specific details.
  17. Do you think the 50 can handle the Deps 250, they seem to be easier to come by.
  18. I am looking to purchase an ABU Garcia revo, but I get confused over the Revo/Toro/Beast different combinations and pricing - the one you have sounds like the one to get!
  19. I suspect it's more for my aesthetic appeal than the fish - if you think about it lures like plastic worms and jigs don't have eyes (for the most part) and they probably account for the majority of fish right?
  20. picked up a Daiwa BG 5000 for 87 bucks, thanks for the coupon tip!
  21. I seem to have trouble keeping the eyes on my Deps lures... is this a problem any of you experience? Do you have a preference for replacement eyes? I'm guessing super glue is the best adhesive to re-install?
  22. there's a hook size chart pinned in the underground page; it shows: Roman Made Mother Owner ST-46 2/0 2/0 but I agree you'll need to experiment - in my experience, most swimbait gliders float without hooks and sink with hooks on, the larger/heavier the hook the faster the sink
  23. It's a Rock Hard Castaic, I've got two: great swimmers, I'll pm you details but google tackle tour reviews on it if you want the skinny.
  24. My Negotiator does too, almost identical and stiffer than the ones I have that came later... I bought this used so I don't know if it's an 'aftermarket' or home made - swims good though
  25. "I love big BAITS and I cannot lie... " Seriously, I've been impressed by how the 10 inch baits I use pull fish in so you can at least see them - 'followers' may be frustrating for some, but at least they're located. Gives me confidence in an area.
