  1. Alright the first 2 prototypes are painted. They are weighted a little different one glides more and one will do more of a 180* but both are stable when cranked hard and twitched. I will try and get a video soon.
  2. For some reason I cant play the vid but the pic looks very interesting man. hopefully i can get the vid to play would love to see it in action!
  3. Thank you! It has taken a lot of work to get to this point. Hopefully I can replicate and improve it. gotta try the tweeks on another one of the prototypes now.
  4. I just might be figuring this thing out folks! I had a couple hours before work today so I made a few tweeks to one of the prototypes and here is the swim vid. I know I have to tweek it to get a further glide but this is the first time I have got a glide to be darn near 100% stable on fast retrieves and hard rips and reel pops. Pretty stoked right now hopefully its not a fluke LMAO!!!
  5. I have been busy lol! Spent a lot of time testing different weight positions/locations and now moved on to testing how the face shape and body shape affects the swim. It is hard to tell but this first pic is a few I am currently working with... Left is the OG first pour, next is another pretty standard with just some light sanding on the hump, next gets more drastic more aerodynamic face and sanding, next a flat bunt bottom lip and last is just a rounded off nose. next pick is just close up of 3 and 4. The next pick is a couple that have major flaws like bubbles and such I painted up to test durability gonna go toss em into heavy cover and see how they hold up. The last pick is a major redesign where I sanded the face for a complete makeover added more detail to gill plate added pectoral fins and made the tail thinner overall. Still deciding if I want to waste the time carving scales when I havent fully figured out how to make the bait as stable as I want. I can get the baits stable to where you can crank em pretty fast, on hard twitches they do pretty good but still will nose down a bit on aggressive twitches but overall lazy swim is good and reel bump glide is good. More work to come hopefully I can have an ahhh haaa moment soon and figure this out. Either way I figure this may help somebody else....

    Gill glide

Thats a clean mold and the amount of detail is amazing!
  7. Paint, design....everything looks pretty dam good brutha. Well done!
  8. Been working a ton but I have been tinkering a bit when I can. Stayed with 8% MB and poured 3 more with the weights in different locations. So far it seems this is a huge contributing factor. I always subscribed to trying to evenly weigh down a bait across the bottom but from testing this bait seems to run better with the weight centralized. I have a couple short clips I can try to upload later to youtube or here if I can post a short vid. Still not perfect but this bait is serviceable now and I will fish these blanks.
  9. I made another casting of this bait and I used 8% MB instead of 10% by weight. I left off the fins except a crude tail and kept the weight as tight together as I could to get it to balance in the test tank. It was much more stable at higher speeds and hard twitches but I lost some of the glide. I will mess with it more and I think I may do another casting at 6 or 7% MB. Im thinking that the opposing forces being buoyancy and ballast are possibly causing the instability so I am going to focus on that variable for a bit I think.
  10. Sorry for bringing back an old thread... I was laid off work in 2020 due to covid and all my time has gone into training on my new gigs and family. I have not been working on baits partly because of time constraints and I got pretty frustrated with this bait HAHA. I never got it to perform the way I had hoped. Well I pulled it out cleaned the dust off today and remembered why I stuck it away in that box LMAO! This bait looks ok on a straight retrieve and little reel pops but it is unstable at higher speeds and when twitching or popping it harder. It wants to roll/yaw and it will nose down when twitched. I have Tried opening the joint, Moving weight distribution around always keeping at the bottom of the bait, changed the line tie location and made sure both sections sink very close to the same. My main question right now is whats the best way to weight this bad dawg. Do you guys try and keep the weight all in one spot around the balance point or evenly distribute it across the bottom? If anyone is willing to share or help point me in a direction I would appreciate it!
  11. Thanks Dan! Ya it swims at slow speeds just not at medium to high speeds. The ballast in the tail is 90% right at the hinge and the front section 70% in the back at the hinge. Now that I know about how much weight it takes I can mold it into the bait in different spots to see what helps. I haven’t got a chance to play with it anymore yet.
  12. Well first swim test was a disappointment. It will glide if I twitch or impart reel twitches but on a slow retrieve it has a tight action. I can mess with the hinge for that. My main concern is if I rip or try and reel fast it is very unstable. I am still having trouble figuring out how some of you guys make these glides so stable. I got a lot more playing around and testing to do to try and figure this out. Any help is appreciated! Cheers, Matt
  13. Awesome man my hats off to you! I bought a 3d printer and tried to learn fusion 360 but gave up. Its challenging trying to learn it from scratch. I may try again when I have some free time.
  14. Sorry for the delay on this had to order silicone and been busy at work, I decided to mold the bait to test and I can put more details on the wood master at a later time, here is the first rendition but no weight so its not tested as of yet, next I have to figure out how to use swivels as hangers and add some details to pectoral fins if i can get this to swim good.
