  1. I don’t think it’ll hurt the fishing. It may or may not have an effect on the angler though. Some may say skills. Id be concerned about the body/posture long term. My neck hurts watching these guys use these electronics.
  2. Forgot to add that any issues I’ve had were from playing around with mods like lift and bigger tires. From fitment to change in mpgs. But these were/are normal/expected issues, so nothing too major. Every vehicle is different when it comes to making these mods so you may experience something similar or different.
  3. I have a 2019 SR5 and love it. No complaints really as it does everything I need. Not too many dislikes from me except for minor things like storage options and the seats. TRDs have an extra cubby in the back. The seats also fold flatter since the bottom can be folded up. Many will complain about the engine power, but it’s not a race car anyway. It doesn’t bother me. I pretend it is sometimes since I live in Texas and everyone drives fast. SR5s do have a third row. So if you have kids or plan to have a full ride, that’s something to think about. I don’t remember if that’s an option for TRD. Maintenance wise, it should be easy and last a long time. I don’t have that many miles on mine, at least for a 4Runner, so I do the basic every ~5,000 mile oil change and tire rotation at the moment. As far as SR5 vs TRD, I went with SR5 because of the price and I didn’t need all the extra features a TRD offers. I only really cared about having 4x4 when I lived in Kansas for when the snowstorms happen to get bad. It’s also nice to have when visiting home since north Texas and Oklahoma can still see some bad weather. Where my parents live, they can get a lot of snow drift and it’s not an issue. Icy roads aren’t bad either as long as your care of course. Unless you want a specific feature or color offered in a TRD, a SR5 should do everything you need. Just want to note even though you mentioned that there won’t be any real off roading, the SR5 is still plenty capable. With all of the aftermarket parts and such available, you can outfit a 4Runner any way you’d like. I did a a basic small lift, new wheels/tires, and rock sliders. Save some money with the SR5 and have fun. For towing, I haven’t towed a small boat, only jet skis. It does fine. I’d imagine a boat would be fine too. Parents also have a TRD off road and pulled the jet skis when we went to Table Rock through rock/gravel roads (camp grounds and to a boat ramp) and it did fine too. They did take a wrong turn at like a dead end/tight turn around. Believe one side of the trailer was airborne/hanging off the edge since everything is hills and ditches. Dad turned on 4x4 and got out before I got there to help. Also had mine at Table Rock and only used 4x4 for the really steep parts of the camp grounds. I’ve taken it to Galveston, TX through saltwater and to the beach on sand and it was fine. Didn’t air down the tires since the sand was so compact and hard. Just a good rinse to get the salt off and like new.
  4. I’m not as hardcore at swimbait fishing like everyone as far as long hours and throwing the real big baits. For work, I am sitting for long periods in the office so I can relate to some of the back pain and bad posture. My dad who has back and hip problems actually lays on the floor a lot and it helps him some. I do this sometimes and it helps. My back pain is just the lower back from sitting at the desk so probably minor compared to most folks. Guess it helps mainly helping stretch out your back a bit. Or you can also have your little ones walk or sit on your back lol. Older kids work too depending on weight. Kind of a massage/help pop certain spots.
  5. I like to use a multi tool like a Leatherman instead of a fishing specific pair of pliers. This came from bank fishing mostly urban areas where I would run into snags like poly rope or even sunken clothes, wool blankets, and even sleeping bags for a few examples. A multi tool helps to unhook things and cut things up all in one. Or you can carry pliers and a knife separately too.
  6. I believe many would say the rod since the reel is only holding line. You fight the fish with the rod. I actually lean towards the opposite and say be willing to spend a little more on the reel. There’s more moving parts which can lead to more possible failures. A good quality reel keeps you on the water longer. But also consider personal preference, budget, and sales.
  7. http://mtncork.com This site sells specific length rod tubes and can also make them to a custom size.
  8. I use rod glove spinning reel covers since I usually use them when traveling and take my reels off. And multipurpose! They generally cover up most of the handle too (the knobs may stick out a bit). I don’t have any aftermarket handles and knobs so not sure if/how they would be affected. Biggest handle I have is the stock Abu Revo Beast and the knobs definitely stick out a bit.
  9. Whipper snapper for me coming from cranking rip rap with a square bill. Just a difference in size. Also a smaller glide like an s waver 168 or Deps 145.
  10. I might be the odd one on this but want to throw it out there as it may be something to consider too. I have one and it is great. Smooth like everyone says. But I don’t like the overall size of it for swimbaiting since it feels small in my hands (not really large/wide hands, but long and skinny) and doesn’t feel comfortable on a larger swimbait rod. So it is just used for the occasional conventional fishing (I know don’t come at me please lol)
  11. Can the ones on Tackle Warehouse be used for your application? Even though it says it’s for the 250 Slide Swimmer, maybe you can modify it. Just curious since I don’t have experience doing a conversion. Also, you mentioned an OG Silent Killer and I’m not sure if there are any big differences.
  12. Probably when I was fishing an S Waver, still fairly new to the swim bait game. I made a long cast fishing this small pond. It was a somewhat windy day. The glide was probably in the water for maybe 5 seconds and I had the hardest hit I’ve ever experienced. Of course I couldn’t set the hook fast enough. I’d like to think that is the PB that got away. Oh well, another fishing story!
  13. You could use a long telescoping pole like a painters pole or a light bulb changer with snagging lines/magnets on the end. You could even get fancy if you have a GoPro or similar attached to the end for a visual aid. I’d imagine it would be easier on a boat though instead of a tube.
