  1. Hey everyone, I really enjoy reading all about your catches in this sub, especially the posts that go into detail and explain how they caught the fish. These stories really provide me with more ideas on what to test and ways I can improve my own fishing moving forward. Anyway, a few days ago, I decided to hit up a small city park lake I haven't been to in a while to get in a quick bank fishing session. This spot isn't really known for big fish and is highly pressured, so I went in fully expecting to catch some dinks. To my surprise, I ended up catching a couple of good ones! Here’s the breakdown: Setup: Megabass VKC-711XH Shimano Scorpion MD 300XGLH DRT Tiny Klash Joy Thief Lo - Stock Lip, V-Tail, G-Guard, Weighted To Suspend Weather: 50 Degree Air Temps 10 mph North Winds With Up To 15 mph Gusts Mostly Sunny Time and water conditions: Around 6pm ?? Water Temps (based on feel, guessing above 50 but below 60) - probably way off on that Water visibility - About 5 ft The Catches: The wind was blowing from the north, so I decided to start on the south bank, where the wind was blowing against it. This end is typically deeper and has more interesting structure. Another thing I noticed was the loons swimming in that area, which I took for a sign that it might be where a lot of the bait fish are holding. I figured that’s where most of the bass would be concentrated in this scenario. I started out by cranking the TK until it gained some depth, and then I would deadwalk it back with various cadences. Think jerk, jerk, pause for a few seconds, and repeat, testing various lengths of the pause, ranging anywhere from 3 to 5 seconds. I mainly focused on fan casting and paralleling any visible drop-offs or structural irregularities. I got a few small followers but no commits. Then, I saw what appeared to be some baitfish being chased near a small point about 40-50ft away. This indicated to me that the fish were probably more active and preferred something faster. So I switched up the retrieve to a faster deadwalk. Basically, a quick and erratic deadwalk by making quick quarter turns of the reel handle, with less than half a second pauses in between each reel turn, all the way back to shore. I walk over to where I had seen the movement and make a cast towards deep water, paralleling the side of the small point. I start the retrieve, and just as the TK approaches the tip of the point, I get bit Hard. I wasn't expecting it, so I barely set the hooks into it. It was a total textbook situation, from the cast angle to the retrieve, and even where the bite happened. I get her close to shore and go in to lip her, but then I end up slipping on a rock! She thrashes her head, trying to make another run, and as I quickly get up to lip her, I noticed she had T-Boned the TK! At this point, there was no way I was going to lip her bare-handed with those treble hooks swinging everywhere. So, in a last-ditch effort, I grab the line and bank her on the shore. Not the most elegant way to do things, but at least I land her. This lake isn't really known for fish bigger than 1-2 lbs, so I didn’t bother bringing my scale or measuring board. Something I really regret now, but regardless, she was definitely a good one for this lake. Nobody was around, so I snapped some quick pics and sent her back on her way. For the next catch, I reach the other side of the point and make a cast across a section that funnels into another part of the lake. There is a shallow flat on the opposite side that drops off into deep water, with what is usually a shallow hump beside it. However, due to the low water levels, the hump is currently above water. I make a cast parallel to the edge of the flat where it drops off into deep water, start the retrieve, and right as I pass the hump, I get bit again in another textbook scenario! I land her and see she must have really wanted the TK because she nearly choked it! Holding her up, I realize she's even bigger than the last one, though I have no weights or measurements to be certain. Fortunately, this time, I manage to get a random passerby to take some pictures for me. Overall, it was a pretty good session! Also made a quick sketch on the lake breakdown below.
  2. The title says it all! My swimbait journey started last fall with a flipping rod and a dream- had a few eats but the stiffness of that rod pulled the hooks every time. I upgraded to a Dobyn's Fury 806 and a Shimano Cardiff around Christmas-time and fished HARD. I didn't have any Hudds to drag on the bottom, so I fished glides all winter. Kept at it, skunk after skunk, knowing that getting that first fish would take time. Fast forward to today; I had just gotten a TK that I traded a Deps SK for (shoutout to Joshua if you see this; thanks bro!), and had already had two follows in hella muddy water. My buddy and I hit up a lake we had only been to once or twice before, and after about 5 minutes of casting, I watched the smaller fish eat it at my feet. AT MY FEET! After boat flipping it to the bank, I felt like a huge weight had lifted off of me. I've always said, you might not catch a fish every time you go, but sometimes, you catch a fish when you need to. I also found out today that my mom would have to start legit chemo after taking it in pill form for the last several years- it's almost like everything lined up to catch that first fish- I needed it for sure. The second fish- a bona fide 4 poundah came about 30 minutes later while I was giving the TK the ole Bill Dance (think- twitch twich PAWS) and BOOM. Smoked it. Choked it. Swallowed it whole. Learning to fish swimbaits all winter has finally paid off, and damn does it feel good. Hopefully the rest of the week will look like today, or better! Thanks to everybody on here for sharing y'alls knowledge and experiences! - appstlhd
  3. Racing to the work Pond leaving the house with minutes to spare I was able to entice a little one but beautifully marked, with the transfer tail. This bait for me is what the whacky rig is to others. Seems to always gets bit
  4. Got a lot of rain so walked to the backside of the work pond I had been avoiding it because it was like 2-3 feet deep and didn’t look “fishy”. Was pitching the tk with the transfer tail down next to some trees and got a little guy to come out. I was 5 minutes late but managed to get one fish before work and it was worth it to me. Helps that I can just slap the gear in the back of the car and jog to the back door of the kitchen lol.
  5. Going out every day looking for something, not sure what. Being on the water everyday keeps the memory of grandfather alive with me. While I was daydreaming I noticed a larger wake than usual behind my tk. Que the speed up and the eat. Fishing is such an escape for me lately and I’m so happy that I was blessed with the right people around me to foster the love I have for fishing now, things I didn’t notice and appreciate when I was younger. Fish went 5.12 Thanks for reading guys I hope everyone has a good weekend
  6. I’ve had this TK on the bottom for a long time but I’m not sure what color it is abs I don’t think I’ve seen it anywhere else can anyone identify it?

  8. Went out today to try some urban ponds and was able to convince this dude to eat. Legit had him hit the TK over 10 times until I fished it like a spy bait. Not a bit of side to side motion and slowly pulled it along top water and boom! Inhaled the back half of the lure, all basically no more than 8 feet from my feet! Not a big, but sure felt great to get the boost of confidence knowing I can still do it. Thanks for lookin!
  9. Went out today for a little shore fishing, fished a good portion of the time with a citizen 6 and on my way back I switched to the Tiny Klash (lip out, mode b). I casted out across a point and swam right up to the shallowest part, with solid half turns on my handle about half way back through my retrieve BOOM! she smoked it, was nice to get a decent one, it’s been a struggle the past month for me!
  10. Today I continued the momentum I had the past few days and stuck three today on the tiny klash, (lip out , mode b) nothing huge but it’s a blast when you get multiple bites in a short time span and actually catch all of em! Got a quick cast to catch on a tiny bass, crazy dude ate the whole treble hook! Thanks for looking! Have a good day Underground! Thank you all for the motivation to keep grinding! IMG_0889.MOV

Bittersweet day today. May be my last day out this season. Got a school of smallies fired up, , including this 4.21. Got caught up in the moment, didn’t retie, and lost my TK moments later.
