Bass Addict
Welcome to the board. That is a sweet setup that will be able to handle a wide range of baits. Here is a list of the more popular baits Soft Baits: 316 minnow, rising sun, mission fish Hudds - 8" and 6" Ospreys Optimum line thru's Rago soft baits, take your pick real prey little creapers matt lures big hammer hard baits 316 wake jr, baby wakes, fs trouts, bass, perch, shad herring MS slammer 7" and 9", I prefer the single joint as opposed to the double Jerry Rago Triple Trouts castaic black dog shell crackers lunker punker wood and injected deps slide swimer and slient killer Roman made baits koppers blue back herrings cl8 bait Mattlures That is just some of the more common baits. Get yourself a copy of southern trout eaters, that movie has great info for a newer swimbaiter. It is a must IMO for any one starting out. Use the search function and you will probably find a ton of similiar threads that you can get additional details. I would get to know the body of water you are fishing, the forage in particular and then buy baits in the same patterns. If I only had a 100$ to spend, I would buy a 7" white slammer(35$), a pack of 316 mininows(10$), 316 mission fish (15$) 6" hudd(25$) and an osprey talon (10-15$). tblando and Primus
5-20
20 lb. Trilene Big Game. The line's very forgiving, extremely strong and will let you make bad casts without breaking baits off.
Top Ramen
I use P-Line PF original. As for baits, when you are starting out, keep it simple. Get some soft baits and one or two floating hard baits. Stick with the classics. Learn to use them, then start trying other baits. I spent far too much time jumping from one bait to another when I started out. Basic soft baits: Hudd Rising Son Osprey Mission Fish (Pick any two of these and start chucking them) Top water: 9" Slammer original Wake Jr or Baby Wake Floating FS Shad or FS Bass/Trout (pick at least one with a bill, also get a lipless one if you have the budget for a second bait) If you really feel the need to get a sinking hard bait: FS Shad Hard Gill Triple Trout High Power Herring Again, keep it simple, with a few baits and learn to use them. And, welcome to the forum! tblando
evans_usmc69
Another good bait on that setup would be a Deps 250 slide swimmer if you can find one. Edit:sorry, I see that bass addict already had this on his list

Top Ramen
True, I should have included the SS 250 on my list of hard baits but I wasn't sure what the weight range on that rod was.

Bass Addict
i buy my slammers from mike shaw's site, my hudds directly from hud, my 316 from 316 etc....so first I go to the maker, if that fails, black market the tackle warehouse. evilcatfish
After some research my first were a Mini Slammer, 7" Slammer and a couple Hudds, as they seemed like what people suggested as introductory swimbaits. The rest as they say, is history. *And sometimes I feel like my bank account is history
nightsessions
Buy a few proven baits over a bunch of baits that are not proven With winter approaching I would suggest a 8 inch hudd and slide swimmer 250 to get you started along with a big topwater
