TommyGun316
Anyone have any advice on which ones to buy? Hardgill? Hammertail? U2? Much thanks.
viaxai
I have fished the hammertail and U2 gills, but never owned the hardgills. I had more issues with the U2 bluegill. Bad hookup ratio and if the dorsal fins are bent, you will have to reboil the bait and fix the fins to make it swim properly. The hammertail swims good right out of the package, but I haven't caught a fish on it. Keepingitreel is a youtube channel and I believe he did a review for the hardgill and U2, but not the hammertail yet. Check his channel out, lots of information there for most of mattlures baits. Primus
Love the Hard Gills , very popular bait for a reason. I don't have a lot of time on the water but I'm impressed with the Hammertail Bluegill baits and to me they swim better than the previos versions of his soft Bluegill swimbaits. Amistoad
I’m a big fan of the hardgill. Plenty of smaller fish (16” or so) eat them but so do the bigger ones. I like slow sink because I fish near a lot of weed beds and submerged trees. The slow sink lets me avoid too many snags. I can fish it slow, burn it, and let it pause. A LOT of hits come on the pause. I haven’t used the softgills too much but intend to this spring. TommyGun316

waynem
Its pretty hard to go wrong with a slow sink hardgill. I've caught hundreds of bass on that bait. Amistoad, Primus, danthefisherman and 1 other 3

jcw
What is the right size replacement hooks for the standard size hardgill? I have caught fish up to 5 pounds on my hardgill and the stock hooks bend out on each fish.

CG_Fishes
I have 2 hammertails, 1 in the u2 size and one in the bigger size and with both baits I've had the problem of peeling pain specifically more on my larger one (pumkinseed color) and the bait is BRAND NEW never seen water, the smaller version (tw baby gill) has less peeling and has been fished but still has some peeling, i was wondering if anyone else was experiencing these issues and if so how were you solving them
bigpoppabass
Stick with the hard gills. A must own. A true floater with slightly heavier back hook can create a feeding posture that works even in calm conditions. Few sbs work in calm conditions like that......I think the soft gills I own are jigging baits but they are not great swimmers. Maybe I have not figured em out.
