flaswimbaiter
Do you punch a hole in the fish's mouth or put the hook in the gills? I have always used scales with grippers not hooks. Has anyone tried both methods and gotten different readings?
Bassindon69
I don't see any reason why an extra hole needs to be punched. Unless your doing tourneys, cull bouey s I'm sure poke most of the holes in the fish. I have always used hook scales. They used a grip scale at Irvine and my fish gained a pound Lmao! Who's scale was that? Is that what you mean? Lol
Nicknick222
If you have a net you can do what a lot of fly fishing guides do, and that is zero the scale beforehand and then just weigh the fish, net and all by hooking the scale to the net. No holes in the fish and you don't have to handle it.
WRobo
I use a rapala hook style scale. I place the hook directly under the gillplate while avoiding hooking the gills. No holes. No damage. Haven't fished much this year and I haven't had a fish worth hanging in a while. Hoping that will change tonight or Sunday.
Jeff22
As stated above i also just use the hook just under the gill, Have not harmed 1 so far doing it.
