CG_Fishes Posted December 29, 2021 Report Share Posted December 29, 2021 For the past few years I have been using big baits on the river looking for smallmouth, pike and musky. I was always surprised to have never run into a walleye in that time but always figured it was a matter of time. Decided to get out for pike this afternoon and for some reason felt compelled to grab something to try for a walleye as well. Fished for pike for an hour or so to no avail with the 9" magslowl. As the sun set I picked up the 7" magslowl and started tossing it around, pretty lost as I have no idea how to fish for walleye. 3rd or so cast I feel a thump and think I hit a rock, all of a sudden I feel some headshakes before it comes off and I see a flash. Gave the spot 15-20 minutes and tossed back before leaving and got her to eat it again, this time hooking up. She gave a pretty good fight, coming off right as she hit the net. I've never thought much about walleye other than being a cool bycatch but if I can get something figured out with these fish I may have a new target on the list.
