    Cutthroat

Never got around to posting this. Have been traveling for work for the last 2 years and haven’t really been around the best bass fishing. But I took advantage of being close to Pyramid Lake when I was in Reno. Believe it or not this size fish is not uncommon in this lake. Caught a couple on the hudd 68 but this one came on a big flutter spoon on 12lb test. She weighed just under 9 and was by far the biggest trout I’ve ever caught

  4. Hey SU, with hardwater season in full effect I needed to keep busy. My goal was to make a bait with all the leftover stuff I had from making other baits. That included silicone for molds, hooks, lip material. Well once I made one I couldn’t stop so bought way more stuff. Also started airbrushing much more which has been fun. These baits crank down easy but the new ones wake at a faster speed. Golden shiner, bass and slime dart (pickerel) flavors. Not sure if the video attached but I can’t wait to fish these. The two piece does a great body roll and the three piece has a smooth swim. Tight lines, Ryan 172BEE09-C748-4FF4-81CC-FB4E1990D567.MOV

    First fish of 2019

Went out for a quick session yesterday to test out some baits I've been making. I've never caught a fish after rain passes through and i don't know what to use in that situation (If you have some swimbait tips please let me know!) I started with my hinkle trout but had no action, i switched over to my Klash 9 with defeesha reworked for me and tried for more of a reaction bite. Caught this one close to the bank working it back in from the deep

  7. I have the Berkley 35lb "Precision Digital Scale", which measures to fractions of an ounce. I also have an older model Berkley 50lb digital scale. I sent the high precision one to IGFA (International Game Fish Association) for certification. For a fee they will corroborate your scale against their known weights and measures. Its expensive ($40), but in the event I catch a record I already have a scale certified by the same organization that keeps all world records for all gamefish. AKA....you can take it to the bank! They not only use various weights on your scale, but also weigh each weight multiple times. My scale ended up being accurate to the ounce except at the highest weight it was subjected to, I think 25lbs, at which point it was off by exactly 1 ounce. I say all that because I can now say with confidence that the scale is highly accurate. Now, here is the important part and what you should do should you ever pay the money and have a scale certified. IMMEDIATELY take a few objects of varying weights (like 1lb, 3lb, 5lb, 10lb, 15lb) and weigh them on your freshly certified scale. Record the values and keep those objects....like, forever. The idea is in the future, maybe at the start of each year you can re-weigh each of those items and see if you are getting the same values as you did when you got your scale back from certification. Assuming there is no change you can confidently fish that scale for years and years and know it is still right on the money accurate. Otherwise, as the years pass you may question if its still dialed in and have to get it rectified. Regarding my original/older scale. I weighed the same objects with it and got values all within 1 ounce of those that my certified scale gave. So there to, I know going forward that its performance is right in line with my certified scale and I can weigh fish with it confidently. I can also use the same system at the beginning of each year to verify that it is still accurate and there has been no deviation. *Also of interest.... IGFA will POST certify a scale used on a trophy catch. I'm not sure how they can authenticate you are sending them the EXACT same scale, but it says as much in their literature that they do this. On a larger note: I don't think there is anything special about these Berkley scales. I suspect Berkley and the various other companies are all buying the actual internal weight mechanism from one or two major manufacturers and just throwing them inside a Berkley, Rapala, Brecknell, etc. body/frame. But, the sheer fact that the "High Precision Scale" actually displays out fractions of an ounce I thought was telling and indicative of an effort to truly be extra precise. 8. Got to test out the bass bait, looks awesome, works great. Super stable, even at high speeds and twitching. Bait works best (imo) on a reel stop retrieve, but that how i work all my glides... it gets really wide when you start implementing some action. I could not get the glide to turn over and roll even when i tried. As always, let me know what you guys think!

  9. I look at this differently. The SOLE reason I got into big bait/swimbait fishing was to hedge my bets and catch bigger fish than I had with traditional sized lures. Otherwise, whats the point, right? So, I have a weight threshold by which I consider a fish/ the outing successful. That's 5 lbs. That comes from the fact that all the years I threw traditional size baits I would regularly get fish anywhere in the spectrum of 1-4 lbs. But, for some reason I almost NEVER cracked 5's when fishing my traditional baits. So, thats my measure of success and my reason for throwing big stuff....catching bass over 5lbs. However, the vast majority of the days I don't crack the 5lb mark tossing big baits. I'll get those same 1,2,3 and 4lb fish I always got. And while a mid 4lb fish is pretty nice, its nothing I, nor anybody else can't get on traditional lures consistently. So, while technically most of my days are not 'skunks', in essence I consider them to be so unless I cracked a 5lb'er. Carl / KeepinItREEL Fishing

I mostly throw Weedless Hudd 68's , Matt lures Gills , realprey shiners etc. I got it late summer and had to cut to cut my season short due to my son starting his hockey season and other things that kept me real busy last fall so I don't have a lot of time with that combo. That said it cast very well ( I use 2 brakes ) and it is very smooth refined reel. Very impressed so far, I managed to drag a couple of fish in ( unfortunately no lunkers yet with that reel ) and it handled them no problem. I will definitely will be giving it thorough workout when they start moving into shallow grass and hope to see it winch in some big ones out of the milfoil & lily pads. I don't have enough time with this reel to give it a total recommendation but if you are a guy who has confidence in Shimano and is comfortable with round reels you will probably be very happy with it. If not there is always ebay. Regarding my son ( proud Dad moment ) he had 3 goals ( what they call a Hat Trick ) and an assist the last game .

  18. Last 2 months for the fall feed in September and October before the cold weather really set in up here in New England I got out swimbaiting almost everyday at minimum 6 days a week and I got skunked basically every time in those 2 months I caught 1 small mouth that’s it!! totally bummed me out killed my moral for a while after taking some time off wasting a ton of money on new gear rods reels baits etc I’m pumped again to get back out there do some big bait fishing I think I needed the time off to gather myself getting constantly skunked really took a toll on me mentally I was preparing for failure evertime I dropped the boat in the water before I even chucked 1 bait now I’m rested and prepared for success 2019 going to be a good year for this Swimbaiter

All is well on my end Brian someday I will come down and visit you in Fla, I’ve been kind of keep to myself now that New England has turned into the Social Capital of the world for swimbaitunderground users, never seen so many 5 + 6lb PB’s. My Crank-Bait retirement collection rests on my living room table mostly old school wooden Pats with a few newer ones along with a few sick swimming RI Dave Anderson s deep divers (DA missed out on being a billionaire) plus a few of my favorite old Wood-tails and Slammers mixed in on the table.

    Toxic Day

I will give some baits away. Lots of stuff from other cool companies and builders. There will be baits for sale from myself, Pizz customs, Profumo baits, magnum baits, and a few other small builders. I have bbq catered for the event, ipa brewed for Toxic day, drinks of all types. This event was planned as a get together/ event that would bring anglers together without the need of a tournament. I am blessed to do what I do, it’s all because of the customers. I want to give back as much as I can. That being said the support has been incredible and humbling to say the least. I can’t believe the amount of peeps that are down to come hang out and chill. I hope I can meet expectations but even more I hope we can all come together and meet new friends and network through our common culture of fishing! That’s the deal for me! I just want to have a great time and party with other fisherman that like the stuff i do too. The speakers should be insightful and hopefully people can leave with more than a toxic bait.

  24. Brand new og 250 in ayu. No box tho. Was sold to me as new and after looking it over you can tell that there’s no wear from being thrown. Feathered hooks and has lip weight glued in check pics. Pm offers next is a 8 inch wood punker with the realistic wrap. The ones the collaborated with. Has been thrown several times but the wrap keeps it looking nice. Has a decoy snap. Pm offers

    DRT Klash Ghost

Ok. So I have seen sooooo much hype about this bait and really don’t understand. I’m so tired of all these hyped up baits that don’t preform. Yes, the current klashes have there spot but how much of a “game changer” can the ghost be?? Is the hype real? Would that same ff not just eat a hudd or 250 if you put that bait in front of that same fish?? NOT HATING!! Just want to know yalls opinion thanks!

  47. This is my first year, but ive caught 2 fish in about 6 months. If i had to guess, maybe 70 trips, and only one was successful. 1/70 but i enjoy every single skunk. Just yesterday i was chunking a hudd around, and without even getting a bite i learned so much about bottom bouncing. I came from carolina rigging 24/7 so i am very much a bottom fisherman. Throwing across deep points and dragging up ledges is my specialty. But the problem with c-rigging is that you catch a lot of fish haha. And going from catching 5+ a day to catching one every few months is a very hard transition, but much more worth it. I know this comment is overly long, probably cause im on the toilet while writing this, but heres an analogy. Swimbait fishing is kinda like shooting photos. You can bring a digital camera and take 200 meaningless photos of a landscape, or you can take a film camera and take 10 heartfelt meaningful photos of something that really spoke to you... same goes for fishing, you can throw a senko and catch 50 bass that you will not remember next week, or you can throw a swimbait, and catch 2, but youll never forget about those 2. Anyways im out of here, merry christmas.
