PB Landlocked Striper
AzjoefishSb and 5 others reacted to mcclovinfishing for a topic
Exactly a year apart from my previous PB, I managed to break my PB by 4 pounds on the proto 12.5 Fish Everything taxi trout. This was a serious bender and it paid off big time. Late nights, early mornings, skunk after skunk on this lake, and I was finally rewarded. The fish went 30.1# and 42.5”. If only her stomach was a little more full, this would be a different type of post. I’m glad I released this fish and watched her swim to the depths.6 points -

316 Real Deal is back in action
StriperAddict and 2 others reacted to El_Weruso for a topic
After class session, I started with my Deps 250, then Deps 175 with no bites. So i figured maybe they want a slower presentation and got this guy. Not the biggest but it sure helps keep me going, He bit it on a very slow swimming action. The bait was a floater which i got to be a XXSS, i can reel as slow as you would when doing a hudd crawl. I wish the real deal came in a 10+ inch size! I've never done my greatest in the fall/winter season with swimbaits, haven't figured the bite out well enough to consistently get fish. I'll probably be fishing big plastics more and my mothers.3 points -

Homemade Bait

Shout out to @slideaction for this xss shad bait. He makes them for striper and hybrids in his waters but the greenies like em too. I retrieved the bait and it got close to the shore, i put rod tip down ready to lift it out of the water for the next cast and this dink smacked it. I set the hook and flipped it in one fluid motion. Had about 3 ft of line from tip to bait when it bit.2 points -

3 Piece Gill and Crappie
coach_luker reacted to chefchris for a topic
So after almost a full season of fishing my two piece wake n crank gills (same bait I made for the SU Grassroots Swap) I finally got around to making some 3 piece versions. changed up the eye location and head shape a little to match the first one I made. On these I did a few different things. burned all the accent lines/crappie markings like usual, but then after sealer I rubbed the baits with pearl powders instead of using any paint. So all the color there is pearl powder applied right to the wet sealed bait, no paints used at all. The powder technique is cool and definitely will do again knowing how it works now. the eyes on the gill are 12mm clear doll eyes with hand painted backs, the eyes on the crappie are old school amber glass eyes with gold painted backs. Tails are triple trouts, I liked the smaller looking tails like on the UFO baits so figured I’d give it a try. the epoxy top coat also has a new holo pearl I tried out for the first time on these baits. Has a lot of potential and designed to be applied over black for full effect, but didn’t want to use too much and ruin the baits. But have some ideas down the road for it. the gill is 3.5oz, wakes on the surface and cranks down about 2’. the crappie is 3.75oz, swims subsurface and gets down about 4’, used a modified lip and more chin weight and bigger front hook. The color pattern was inspired by Corey aka _masterbaiter on IG, probably my favorite crappie pattern around and it’s pretty close to ones in my local spots. ill get some swim videos and better pics this weekend and if the sun ever comes here in RI. thanks for checking em out. -Chef1 point -
Top water rod for up to 2oz. ?
CaliBassin reacted to jiggerjake for a topic
I'd like to pick up a dedicated topwater rod for 7" Slammers, rats and other wake bait type top waters in the 1-2oz range. What should I be looking for as far as power, acttion.rod & handle length ? Would a custom be the way to go? (recommend a builder) Thanks.1 point -

When I had checked earlier this year, this was not the case. Looks like Delta's checked baggage policy has finally caught up with the times. Glad to be past the 62 in rod tube limit before overage fees.1 point

Spiralite reviews wanted!
StriperAddict reacted to Loganodum38 for a topic
i just found the paypal email receipt and i ordered it october 22, 2018, so ive basically had it 1 year. thrown exclusively a Baitsanity explorer glide on it, so basically the same size and weight as a 250. always been well cared for and stored with rod sleeve. there was no weak point in the blank where there was a deep scratch, gash, dent etc. literally first cast with it today just snapped on a super easy lob cast. called spiralite this afternoon and he said itd be $60+shipping so basically $90 even tho the website says other wise (exact copy and paste from website). which i think is BS, is it just me or is a 1 year old rod that breaks on the lightest cast you can possibly make with a bait way under the weight rating not due to "defect in worksmanship or materials". If that is not considered a defect in materials then is that how are the worksmanship and materials supposed to perform? break after only a year of use? im not sure how this is going to play out, i called him before i checked the website thinking that it is covered considering its a and "lifetime warranty". If we talk it out and all i have to pay for is the $30 shipping then ill be satisfied, if not, im asking for my money back and getting another dobyns. ive had my 806 and 795 for years and theyve been through hell and back and are still going strong. we will repair or replace at no charge to you other than a $30 return shipping and handling fee any Spiralite rod received at our warranty center that is determined to have broken due to a defect in workmanship or materials for life from the date of original owner purchase. Any rod determined to be broken for any other reason will be replaced based on the following Rod Series replacement pricing: Maverick Series- $49 replacement charge + S&H (USA only)1 point -

Top water rod for up to 2oz. ?
Primus reacted to danthefisherman for a topic
Not sure about a 7' rod, but I can vouch for the Fury 795 as well. GREAT smaller bait rod for the price that will throw 1-3oz with ease. Considering the handle is about 20", the rod doesn't really feel too long at all. I've used the Fury to fish from an inflatable kayak without too much hassle, but the handle is a little long for winging it around in close quarters. If 20" is too much handle for you, the Irod Genesis II Jr. Swim is a comparable rod 1" shorter than the Fury and with a 17" handle. The Jr. Swim is a little less sensitive in my opinion but can realistically handle the same weight range as and lighter than the Fury 795. The irod feels more like a big cranking rod rather than a swimbait rod and is better in close quarters with the handle catching less on things. Both are considered budget, low end rods but I think they are awesome for the price!1 point -
