capped off an incredible weekend with my buddies up north with this 7-10 just slow waking the Pizz Swimbaits wake carp in the original carp pattern. other two big fish for the weekend went 4-1 (beast wake 3 piece, southern spawn) and 5-9 (OD Rat 1 piece, black) also lost a fish that was close to 5 and got my first swimbait smallie (about a 2.5) and a handful of other fish throughout the weekend. Don't know if i will be able to top this one but ill be out there tryin! tight lines!5 points -

I’ve been going down to my home beach 2 min from my house everyday for the last week and fishing from a softboard our past the surf on the reef. I’ll fish anywhere from 30min to 4 hours with constant bites. It’s been too fun. Even got a good sandbass mixed in. The way these fish pull is something else. I’ll have some GoPro footage up at some point as well. The best one (first pic) came from an open water bite after I saw her busting on bait fish. Glad I was straight braid because she tried her best to take me into the grass but I was able to just horse her up.4 points -

Two days ago my brother and I were finally able to fish the river again for the first time since lockdown. The bass were feeding heavily on newly hatched bluegills near weed beds, and we caught quite a few decent ones on crankbaits including the fattest bass that I've ever landed in my life. All the while as I was catching bass on the crankbait I wished I had a small bluegill imitator like a baby bullshooter or baby hardgill...something I could fish parallel to the weed edge and target the bigger fish with. Well, what's there to stop a bait maker? Just add it to the list of never-ending projects! Here's the new design I plan to make: it's going to measure a wee 5in and I expect it to weigh about 1.5oz. A multijoint swimmer and billed crankdown would be perfect to fish those weed edges. Of course I also want to make it into a glide, but I expect it to be more of a twitch bait due to ballast constraints which is fine for fishing in and around cover. I really would love to put soft fins on this baby, but I think it would take too much resin away from the body and add unnecessary weight so I'm opting for hard fins. I probably won't have it complete this season, but seeing how it's such a small bait I'm hoping to have fishable prototypes by next gill season. Nothing gets me excited like a new bait project! Now I have three baits I'm actively working on and need to finish haha. Happy building and thanks for following along! Dan2 points -

Killing me... This is so rad! I did this a few times down at the cliffs and north of swami's when it was flat (which I think is actually a preserve... Oops), but you're murdering it. This is my favorite report, good stuff dude. Hope you caught a wave on your way in.2 points -
The guide had a wooded stick with a rubber knob on the end from an old crutch it looked like. He would kind of tap on the floor of the boat making a drumming sound for about 10-15 seconds. Watching the graphs, you would see the stripers come off the bottom if they were there. Cool technique.2 points

Luv that power handle on the tranx, do you like it? Those things are great. 1. Cabelas used to sell small stickers for rods in the shapes of fish. SM looks nice. 2. I have become a fan of a cheap product called flexx rap. It is actually marketed for finger protection for saltwater braid users. But it has worked great wrapping a couple of uncomfy baitcasting rod handle finger stops that would would give me blisters (sorry I don't know what that little finger holder piece is called on a baitcasting rod). Comes in a variety of colors and I have used it where I normally would with Tommy tape.1 point -

You can get a realprey perch in a white perch pattern. My best numbers swimbait everywhere I've been. But any dark back/light belly pattern is a good imitation for a glide bait. Grew up eating a lot of white perch from the reservoirs in Northern Baltimore County, MD. Really good on crackers with some mustard.1 point

Oh man...you live in a great spot, too. At least you're doing it now. I used to hit the beach and fish all the time from Solana down to Del Mar, but used to go out on my buddy's boat and hit up the kelp beds for some big calicos and lings.1 point -

Send Mike Bucca (Bull Shad) an email or DM on his site. He guided out that way I believe. I'm sure he will share what he knows. I have fished Hartwell many times but many years ago and we were using Blue backs deep and you have to find them on your electronics. We moved around a lot looking. We would drum them up and they would rise up some off the bottom so we could see them on the screen. Had a guide show me the technique was pretty neat to see them react like that.1 point
