I have Dobyns Rods also. I’ve been eyeing up the Phenix Ultra Swimbait Classic Rods, not the M1s.
My rods generally fit a niche so I don’t have a bunch of rods that do the same thing to compare to. I will say that the quantity in an SBX beats a Dobyns fury series swimbait rod but would be on par with a Dobyns champion series rod. A higher end Phenix tops about everything out there.
I have had a great time with my 7-11 XH. Most of the fish I’ve gotten in the last year have been with that rod. It’s got a good taper for my style. Lots of backbone but just a little softer in the tip section. I’ve used both treble hook and jig hook baits and thrown up to a Deps 250 on it. The components and wraps are solid. The main issue I’ve had was with the cover on the piece that screws down to hold the reel in place. In my garage it got hot last summer and wore out the adhesive holding the tactile cover on. Just put a little gorilla glue on and it hasn’t been a problem since. I can send a picture if you’re concerned about that didn’t have anything to do with the actual function of that particular part.
But otherwise the guide wraps and everything else has held up great. I recommend it. It almost looks like a custom rod. It doesn’t have much of a following but you can get a good price on them from amazon. Looks like the XH is 170 on Amazon this morning. Definitely go with it over the guide select. One of my more recent fish in the got em section was on it.
Most guys here will tell you to save and get a custom rod.
Played since I was a little kid and through college. Haven't really followed it since 2012...
saw the quarterfinals are on today, I'll probably tune in for a bit. Go hoos!
Well there's the 177 bridge near a ramp close to Ski Round Top, the concrete at the main entrance area and there are several rocky areas near some of the camp sites from what I remember. Maybe if I go up when its actually warm I'll bring the boat along.
Marburg has the potential for holding state record fish. I've seen guys pull 8" Hudd fish from there from shore. I've only gotten to do a modest amount of swimbait fishing there as I only go when visiting family around the holidays.
Got this little girl hanging out all by herself in some junk. Wading the shoreline casted parallel to the bank, medium retrieve. She wrecked it, really fun fish. Went 5.53 then my scale decided to swim.
